jneed53 Posted May 18, 2009 #26 Posted May 18, 2009 Checked mine -- tight as could be -- about the only thing that hasn't loosened up or fallen off.
Condor Posted May 18, 2009 #27 Posted May 18, 2009 So---- we're finally getting acknowledgement that 2nd gen riders really DO have a screw or two loose!!!:rotfl::rotfl: DANG!! You beat me to it.....
GuthDaddy17 Posted May 18, 2009 #28 Posted May 18, 2009 Thanks for the "heads up" both mine were fair so I added some loc-tite and tightened them up...
Guest Ken8143 Posted May 19, 2009 #29 Posted May 19, 2009 I immediately take a t rip to the garage to check things out. Screws not falling off loose, but I figured, why wait for trouble. Blue loc-tite and I will get me some silicone spray to keep things moving that need to move. Thanks for the info, guys.
Sleeperhawks Mechanic Posted May 19, 2009 #30 Posted May 19, 2009 I just checked the gas cap and yes the darn screws were loose! It is tips like this that really make one appreciate this Site!!! Boomer.....going through his 3rd tube of Blue LocTite now......and who will not go boom using a lighter near the gas tank. Boom like this?!!!!! Dragonslayer Posted May 19, 2009 #31 Posted May 19, 2009 Awhile back I had accidently dropped a rubber grommet in my gas tank. Worrying that it might disolve in the gas and gum up the fuel filter or worse, I was able to fish it out by removeing the gas sensor in the top of the lower portion of the tank, (under the seat) The opening where the gas sensor hole was large enough and give me direct access to the bottom of the tank to allow me to fish out the grommet easily. Seems to me that going into the tank at the sensor would allow you to direct a magnet to pick up metal parts. Might be worth a try.
86er Posted May 19, 2009 #32 Posted May 19, 2009 So yer sayin parts don't vibrate off them Harleys? According to a friend of mine that rides a RoadGlide, he says "Harleys don't vibrate.......they shake!!!
JohnnyB Posted May 19, 2009 #33 Posted May 19, 2009 Thanks for this posting. I checked mine and they were OK however I put some lock tite on them. Johnny
1sttenor Posted May 19, 2009 #34 Posted May 19, 2009 Thanks and just in time. One was dangling and one tight.
wes0778 Posted May 19, 2009 #35 Posted May 19, 2009 I've always been accused of having screws loose, and sure enough two were in my gas cap. They are now secure with thread lock. THANKS for the tip!!!:clap2:
Aussie Annie Posted May 19, 2009 #36 Posted May 19, 2009 I noticed last week that my cap was getting really had to get off and on, Maybe you need a hair cut--then your cap would fit !!:rotfl:
Evan Posted May 24, 2009 #37 Posted May 24, 2009 This forum has been amazing. A few days ago, I remembered to check out my own gas cap on my 88VR. Sure enough, one of the screws was quite loose. Thanks to those who flaggged this problem that Venture owners (like me) wouldn't think about otherwise.
usnmustang Posted May 24, 2009 #38 Posted May 24, 2009 This site Rocks, just got done checking the cap, not loose, but not tight. Blue stuff in and now tight. Thanks for passing this along.
