Lonehunter Posted May 18, 2009 #1 Posted May 18, 2009 I have a 83 venture that I'm fixing up. It has no radio. Has anyone tried putting a splitter on a MP3 player so the driver and passenger can listen to the same MP3 player with ear buds? Will it be load enough to hear or does it really need a amp? Thanks in advance. Jeff
buddy Posted May 18, 2009 #2 Posted May 18, 2009 Walmart has a mp3 kit with splitters for around $14.00 only reason I bought it was to get the reducer for my Garmin GPS. In the kit has one where you can hook up two head sets to one mp3 player. As for the amp I would not know.... Buddy
Ponch Posted May 18, 2009 #4 Posted May 18, 2009 I run a Sansa 8Gig MP3 through the Venture audio system and have not needed an amp.
StarQ Posted May 18, 2009 #5 Posted May 18, 2009 Ear buds, headsets, etc. are not permitted by most state laws when operating motor vehicles. They limit your ability to hear what's going on around you. The exception in some states is the single-ear intercom between driver/passenger or other bike riders. You'd be better off giving the MP3 player to the passenger.

I have J&M earphones and I listen to XM Radio and MP3 through the headset all the time. I have never even received a second look from a cop.
CMIKE Posted May 18, 2009 #7 Posted May 18, 2009 Check the AMA website http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp I am not positive it is all correct but do not know any instance where it is wrong. Most states talk about "communcation only" like GA, " No Restrictions" like Alabama and some say something like if they are "Helmet mounted OK"
