OK folks...a new bike and a new set of problems.

I have 2005 RSV and when I turn on 'Cruise' control switch all lights go on at first, then 'set' and 'rev' go out like it is supposed to. When I try to set the speed then both the 'set' and 'rev' come on and blink 5 times together. About 30 sec later, they repeat and this will continue all day. Pushing 'set' or 'rev' or 'cancel' does nothing.

I have checked main fuses under left cover below seat, clutch switch, and both brake switches. I have taken apart the handle bar cruise switches and sprayed with contact cleaner, as well as WD-40 so that switch rocks correctly.

Any ideas before I start to tear this thing apart? PO says it worked fine last time used. I intend to take outer fairing off, as well as both lowers, and check/clean all connections and use dielectric grease, and check vacuumn lines, and also more fuses under right lower cowling (is this correct?)

Any and all ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please define how fast your were going and what gear you were in. The CC will not set unless you are above a specified speed. ( I believe). More info helps better resolve the issue. Your issue seems to sound like the electronics aren't setting the speed though.

I also have this issue ocassionally but it only does it for a minute or two then straightens up. Currently, I have an issue with my switch hanging and not letting me depress it but if I play with it for amoment I can get it to release and let me set the CC. Freebird or squidley should be able to assist you as well as a number of people here on the site.

I will also get this occasionally when the load is too great for the cruise control to compensate. Such as when I am running at high speed (for the cruise - maxes out at about 80MPH) and pass a truck. The wind wash from the truck cab will sometimes be enough to not allow the cruise to keep up. The lights will start flashing.

Turning off and back on the cruise switch in the fairing resets everything and I am good to go.

Don't know if this helps.

I have tried this at numerous speeds varying between 80 and 120 kph or (50 to 73 mph) in 4th and 5th gears.

The shop manual picks up a signal from one ignition coil (I don't know which one, you will have to check the wire color). The shop manual says this code is either a bad coil or a bad cruise unit. It could possibly be a bad wire to either unit too. See page 8-89. :080402gudl_prv:

Not sure if this is the same problem I had a while back on my 07.

I kept having intermitent problems setting my cruise. Finally figured out my rear brake linkage/switch was not returning fully and kept turning the cruise off. A little spray lube on the rear brake linkage and no more problems.

Wouldn't an 05 still be under warranty? I'd let my dealer sort it out if it is under warranty.. much easier than troubleshooting electrical problems yourself.

I managed to find a connector located behind the right lower cowling that had not been connected properly. PO had fallen against a cement curb at a gas station. Naturally, I found broken tabs as well.

Included a picture, taken from the front for those who have never in there. The radiator is just visible on right side of pic.

There is a fuse for 'audio', loacted in a white fuse holder. There are also 4 fuses in the black fuse holder; 1 x10 amp for CC (crusie control), 1x 10 amp for carb heaters, and 2 are for the external power sources in dash and under seat.

what is this "rev" light you refer to, supposed to tell ya. My 05 RSTD doesn't have anything like that on my display, nor does it say anything about it in manual. Enlighten me please.

Gonna have to try that.. my cruise no longer works either.. I switch it on, get the green light, hit the set button and wait for the system to catch up and keep the bike rolling but what happens is the 2 green lights come in, but the speed bleeds off until the yellow light comes on.. no cruise.. either in 4th or 5th gear..

All the lights come on when supposed to but cruise doesn't engage..
