rpptn Posted May 6, 2009 #1 Posted May 6, 2009 The 'great' state of California needs a secondary 'Federal VIN' tag for registration. I'm at a loss as to where it's located. They know about the stamp on the steering head but, they also want a federal sticker....anybody know it's whereabouts? They won't register the bike without it.
StuD Posted May 6, 2009 #2 Posted May 6, 2009 There is a Sticker on the right hand frame under the brake pedal. At least north of the 49th............ :canada:

Right under the clutch cover on the right side of the bike there's usually a decal showing the vin# and the born-on date. They are not bullet proof and can get damaged... don't spill DOT 3 on it..... There is also a serial number stamped on a flat spot of the engine behind #1 cylinder (left side). I've never heard of an agent needing the decal, but if the decal is missing they'll usually accept the neck stamp. I think the agent was just too lazy to get up in there and check the neck vin. When I registered the '93, from AZ, the guy just looked at the decal and OK'd it. He even asked about the EPA decal, and when he couldn't find it, he just checked OK. Never been to CA City, but been buy it enough times. Checked on Google satilite. You must have the only house out there...
AKRefugee Posted May 6, 2009 #4 Posted May 6, 2009 When I registered mine in March they got the VIN from the fork tube and compared it to the VIN on the prior states registration. The emissions control information came from the sticker inside the rear trunk. I would either go back at a different time and hope you get someone else or ride to a different DMV office.

It's in a different location on a 1stGen.
