MasterGuns Posted May 4, 2009 #1 Posted May 4, 2009 The newest occupant in my garage is an 86 lst Edition. She is really clean and when I rode it before making payment to the PO, she ran great without a miss whatsoever. Trailered it home and cleaned it up a bit and now she is poping like crazy. He said he had it only three weeks and the party he got it from supposedly had it in storage for 13 years. Had to go through it somewhat but I donot believe removing the carbs for a thorough cleaning was part of the de-moth balling. I am wondering if that isn't the problem. I havent had it long enough to ever register here in Texas. So as soon as I have it registered, I will fill the tank with some new fuel, add a can of Sea Foam and take her out for some fresh air. Wish me luck. Since everyone likes pics..... Masterguns
RandyR Posted May 4, 2009 #3 Posted May 4, 2009 Looks like a good garage-mate. Hopefully the seafoam and some fresh gas does the trick. If not, you'll get plenty of advice here on what to do next...
loehring Posted May 4, 2009 #4 Posted May 4, 2009 Very nice. I guess the Harley will get plenty of rest.
MasterGuns Posted May 4, 2009 Author #5 Posted May 4, 2009 Nice looking Herb, how many miles on it? Ian Speedo and PO says 24.8k. She looks great and the engine is tight with no noise whatsoever. Even the cases aren't blemished and peeling, the compression is stock and had a large accumulation of built up dust in the nooks and crannies of the motor that the fella that only had it for 6 weeks before me didn't clean. I could tell right away by his driving light installation that he wasn't too keen on doing things right. It is too early for me to believe the 24.8k but so far the evidence is pointing towards being accurate.
Venturous Randy Posted May 4, 2009 #6 Posted May 4, 2009 If you have not put gas in it yet, I would drain the old gas out and put a couple of gallons of fresh gas in and at least a half can or more of SeaFoam. After you run it a little, then fill it up with gas and put new plugs in. RandyA
Squidley Posted May 4, 2009 #7 Posted May 4, 2009 Nice looker there Gunny, had the same bike a few years back, put lots of miles on her. Randy has some good advise there and I would check all the vaccume hoses to be sure your not sucking air anywhere. Me thinks your gonna like that one
DragonRider Posted May 4, 2009 #8 Posted May 4, 2009 I can see that Harley sitting more and more and gathering a lot of dust just like you new bike did.............your gonna love that 1st Gen so much, you arent going to want to ride that hog anymore, might as well put it up on Ebay or Craigslist and be done with it..........then you will have room for that second 1st Gen as a backup bike, not that you will ever need it. Congrats on the new ride, it sure is pretty.........your gonna love it. Seafoam should do the trick..............
