Freebird Posted May 3, 2009 #1 Posted May 3, 2009 OK folks, the guy told me that the fuel gauge was out on the '89 but I just figured I would find a bad fuse or something. Actually, the entire computerized monitor is dead. NOTHING is working on it. Fuel gauge, warning indicators, even the clock below. I pulled it out last night and we resoldered all the pins on where the connectors plug in but still nothing at all. I then checked for power and according to the wiring diagram, the black wire is ground and I think it was red that was hot. Anyway, it is getting power when you turn on the key but nothing is working. Does anybody have a spare for sale or even that I could use to make sure that it's the monitor itself that is bad. Unless some of you have other ideas, I've about determined that the actual monitor is bad.
Monty Posted May 3, 2009 #2 Posted May 3, 2009 Look at the IC chips on the board. If someone hooked the battery sensor to 12 volts, it may have fried a chip. I have one like that. The info for ordering a replacement chip is somewhere here on the site.
MiCarl Posted May 3, 2009 #3 Posted May 3, 2009 Don, I've got one. Problem is I'm only "almost sure" it's good. Shall I send it to ya? Or, do you want to send the bike to me? I'd be happy to put the computer in and test it for a few months.
Freebird Posted May 3, 2009 Author #4 Posted May 3, 2009 Sure, if you don't mind. I'll PM you my address.

bongobobny Posted May 4, 2009 #6 Posted May 4, 2009 I'm in the same boat as Mi Carl is, have a spare that "Should" be good... It's out of an '85.
