Yama Mama Posted May 3, 2009 #1 Posted May 3, 2009 I have read that this is Motorcycle Awareness month in Ohio, and I believe it is across the nation. Any one here involved in any activities to help our cause? Just wondered. Yama Mama:thumbsup2:
MiCarl Posted May 3, 2009 #2 Posted May 3, 2009 I caved in the side of a girls car to make her motorcycle aware!
Scooter Bob Posted May 3, 2009 #3 Posted May 3, 2009 Our local ABATE region will be purchasing one awareness billboard in the county. We will also distribute dinner placemats with LOOK Twice, Save a Life info to some area restaurants that will use them. We distribute Public Service Announcements to local radio stations, and we also have some for TV stations. We also distribute Awareness yard signs and bumper stickers and such. New for our region this year, started in next county over last year, is a Motorcycle Awareness Rally. We will be staging at the Bowling alley parking lot at 9:30 am next Saturday and having bikers and friends line up along both sides of the busy street holding up various awareness signs to get more people to pay attention to their driving. Rally goes from 10 am till Noon. Everyone is welcome to attend!! Later, Scooter Bob
IH Truck Guy Posted May 3, 2009 #4 Posted May 3, 2009 Hi Peggy, thanks for bringing this up..... We will be going up to help Scooter Bob and Karen with their rally... It would be great to see more friends show up... I have been putting "Motorcycle Awareness" bumper stickers on the back of all our semi trailers at work..... My boss yelled at me for defacing company property... I told him that I had to,it was a condition of my parole, "Community Service"...
Scooter Bob Posted May 3, 2009 #5 Posted May 3, 2009 (edited) A guy at our ABATE meeting 2 months ago told us what happened to him at the Region 1H awareness rally last year. A gal talking on her phone with 1 hand, used the other to flip him off as she drove by. But the sign he was holding up said "Put down the phone, not a biker" , and I guess she just didn't want to hear that.. As an officer of ABATE of Wisconsin, I'd also love to hear what other states are doing for Motorcycle Awareness Month. Later, Scooter Bob Edited May 4, 2009 by Scooter Bob

I sure could use one. I think that is good what your Abate group is doing. Anybody else doing any to further our cause? Oh and Carl, cut it out. Yama Mama:hurts:
Scooter Bob Posted May 6, 2009 #7 Posted May 6, 2009 Most of the signs were made by the individuals holding them up. These rallys are being done in about 15 different cities throughout WI this year. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here's one from last year. We should have some of our own by next week.. Later, Scooter Bob

Scooter Bob Posted May 9, 2009 #9 Posted May 9, 2009 an excerpt from the Motorcycle Riders Foundation alert system The MRF is pleased to report that the United States House of Representatives has passed House Resolution 269. The bill "supports the goals of May is Motorcycle Safety Month." Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX) who both also chair the U.S. House of Representatives Motorcycle Safety Caucus, introduced the bill. Congresswoman Giffords had this to say in the House chamber the day of the vote, "H. Res. 269 also serves as a reminder to all riders and motorists to always share the road respectfully. whozleft Posted May 9, 2009 #10 Posted May 9, 2009 There are a couple of those electronic signs on I-70 in Columbus, Ohio that they post accident warnings and such on. Driving into Columbus to work each morning they often tell you how long before you get to the next exit to give you an idea how fast (or slow) the traffic is going. Last year they were posting a Biker Awareness slogan on them off and on throughout the month. It was a great idea and I am hoping they do the same this year.
Yama Mama Posted May 9, 2009 Author #11 Posted May 9, 2009 Yes they should do that on all interstates. I see nothing wrong with those signs being on all year long to remind drivers to look out for motorcycles. Yama Mama:thumbsup2:
Scooter Bob Posted May 10, 2009 #12 Posted May 10, 2009 We had about 20 people help out throughout the morning. Not bad for first time and a cool, dreary morning. A couple close to crashes cause they were reading our signs or honking instead of watching the guy in front of them(and yes, the cab driver does ride). All in all it turned out good, and I hope we got the message to a bunch more folks on the road. You guys might recognize a couple riders in these pics that helped us out. Love the mohawk Dan!! Sorry the old guys liked our bike better. Thanks for coming up and hope you made it home safe:happy34: Later, Scooter Bob and Karen P.S. Karen still hurts from laughing so much:rotfl:
Jethroish Posted May 10, 2009 #13 Posted May 10, 2009 Any one here involved in any activities to help our cause? Just wondered. Yama Mama:thumbsup2: I'm involved. Just the other day, I made a lady aware she almost ran me into the center concrete devider on the interstate. I did wave to her and tell her I thought she was the #1 driver on the road.
IH Truck Guy Posted May 10, 2009 #14 Posted May 10, 2009 Our pleasure to come and help out.. Made it home safe and sound and a little chilled.... We were a little late picking up Alex, but she'll get over it... Well,Shari woke up this morning laughing about something Karen said. We are really going to have to watch these two.. We will see you again real soon...
Scooter Bob Posted May 10, 2009 #15 Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) Karen is still trying to figure out the proper hand signals for a chinese fire drill:confused24: Later, Scooter Bob and Karen Edited May 10, 2009 by Scooter Bob kybord dusnt alwaaays wurk rite
IH Truck Guy Posted May 10, 2009 #16 Posted May 10, 2009 Karen is still trying to figure out the proper hand signals for a chinese fire drill:confused24: Later, Scooter Bob and Karen Well,we have all summer to get it figured out... I think the chinese keep changing the hand signals on us.. Ya,thats it..
IH Truck Guy Posted May 10, 2009 #17 Posted May 10, 2009 I forgot to add that while we were doing the awareness rally,a Pizza Hut delivery guy pulled in and dropped off 3 large pizza's... He said the manager saw us on the way to work and thought we all looked pretty cold,so they sent over the pizza's to warm us up.. Three cheers to Pizza Hut in Beaver Dam,Wi. for the free pizza..... It was a great day.
