Freebird Posted May 1, 2009 #1 Posted May 1, 2009 OK folks, today I went to look at an '89 Venture. I didn't expect it to be very nice but I was pleasantly surprised. It is an '89 with 44,000 miles. It has some extras like Markland Highway Boards, Nearly new Metzler Commander tires, Drivers backrest, Chrome belly spoiler, etc. It is actually an extremely clean bike. Then I got to looking at it and talking to the owner and discovered that it has been converted to an SS model. That means that it has VMax cams, VBoost, etc. Now I can't afford to keep it but felt that I could make some profit on it so I bought it. I will be picking it up tomorrow morning and will take some pictures and put it here in the classifieds for about a week before it goes on Ebay. I'm going to ask $3750.00 for it here if anybody is interested. I did test the radio, class suspension, etc. and everything seems to work as it should.
Dano Posted May 1, 2009 #2 Posted May 1, 2009 Sounds like a bike I'd be interested in if I had the extra dollars right now. Guess I'll just have to keep converting mine one step at a time.......:mo money: Dan
SapperMedic Posted May 1, 2009 #3 Posted May 1, 2009 Where are the pictures? I would be interested and will drive up to get it.

Freebird Posted May 2, 2009 Author #7 Posted May 2, 2009 This the one advertised as supercharged? LOL....this one is NOT supercharged.
DragonRider Posted May 2, 2009 #8 Posted May 2, 2009 You really know how to push some buttons on us 1st Gen lovers, thats pretty darn low even for someone like you............. Yammer Dan Posted May 2, 2009 #9 Posted May 2, 2009 You really know how to push some buttons on us 1st Gen lovers, thats pretty darn low even for someone like you............. Yep!
Freebird Posted May 2, 2009 Author #10 Posted May 2, 2009 OK folks...just pulled into the driveway with it. Eileen dropped me off and I may have taken a bit of a long way home. I tell you folks, this bike runs strong and handles very well. No wobble of any kind when I took my hands off the bars. I'm not sure what kind of mufflers these are but they sound GREAT. Not obnoxiously loud but a very nice growl. I've never ridden a VMax but this one is supposed to have VMax cams in it and though it idles very good, there is a bit of a lope that I've not heard on stock Ventures. Maybe somebody more familiar with the VMax can tell me if that is normal. Anyway, here are some pics.
cecdoo Posted May 2, 2009 #11 Posted May 2, 2009 Thats a nice one!! seems like a great price if someone is looking. Good Luck with the flip. Craig:thumbsup:
Freebird Posted May 2, 2009 Author #12 Posted May 2, 2009 Well....there is good news and bad news. The good news is that I think the bike is sold. The bad news is that my brother in law is probably buying it and I will sell it to him for what I paid for it. So much for trying to make a little profit. He will be joining the club here though. I pulled the top cover and one of the side panels off. Whoever did the VMAX conversion seemed to do a very professional job. I also see now that it has 4 individual K&N filters under the top cover. There is a toggle switch on the dash beside the class system that I'm not sure what does. I wonder if it has anything to do with the VBOOST but I have no idea at this point. I guess I'll have to trace the wires and try to figure it out.
04Midnight Posted May 2, 2009 #13 Posted May 2, 2009 Freebird, you didn't say anything about the power. We wanna know about the POWER!!
Yammer Dan Posted May 2, 2009 #14 Posted May 2, 2009 Switch for the V-Boost?? Hang on when you flip it!!:rotfl:
loehring Posted May 2, 2009 #15 Posted May 2, 2009 I hope your BIL is experienced. I would hate to see a thread where he crashed such a beautiful bike.
DragonRider Posted May 2, 2009 #16 Posted May 2, 2009 Absolutely friggin beautiful bike:thumbsup:, dang, can't believe your selling or sold it already, man I would have sold one of my bikes for that one......... And what about the power, come on give it up.............we want to know.........
Freebird Posted May 2, 2009 Author #17 Posted May 2, 2009 OK...about the power. I don't know what to say really...this bike is smooth and FAST. I've owned an '83 and an '88 and they both ran good but nothing like this bike. It will literally set you back against the backrest when you hammer that throttle. I hate to admit it folks for for a very brief second.....I actually had thoughts of selling the RSV and keeping it. Even mentioned it to my wife. This thing accelerated like a crotch rocket. It is pretty much a touring bike on steroids. It also has what I think is a SuperBrace, Rivco spin on oil filter adapter....most of the things that many people look for on the first gens.
DragonRider Posted May 2, 2009 #20 Posted May 2, 2009 Don sure thats not the new retro Venture 3rd Gen...........if not sounds like it ought to be.............
YamaDuck Posted May 2, 2009 #21 Posted May 2, 2009 I'm Glad you sold it even if you didn't make a profit on it. I was really fighting back the urge to buy it and if I had my wife would have shot me. I have two bikes already and I can't believe she hasn't shot me already. I guess I'm pretty lucky though, she doesn't ride and she lets me have two bikes!
sarges46 Posted May 3, 2009 #22 Posted May 3, 2009 I'm glad its sold as well.....I am looking forward to meeting some folks.....and I think some wives would have killed a few of the members here if they came home with that.....er....right Dan. Or at least locked em up and thrown bread at them...wardens can be tough.
RedRocket Posted May 3, 2009 #23 Posted May 3, 2009 Hey, my 88 is the same two-tone maroon, and I have side panels with the chrome tube rails attached. If your BIL wants to swap I would be up for it.
Freebird Posted May 3, 2009 Author #24 Posted May 3, 2009 Well, my brother in law slept on it last night and decided that he just doesn't need to buy a motorcycle right now. So this one will still be available. I've got to replace or repair the computerized monitor but otherwise, I haven't found anything wrong with it. I did find that it has a VMAX rear in it also.
Squidley Posted May 3, 2009 #25 Posted May 3, 2009 Lots of extra bling on it, nice bike for a 1st gen
