Does anyone know a way to increase the maximum speed setting for the cruise? While riding out west, there were some roads that had a speed limit of 80 (Utah) and many other states with a limit of 75. My cruise will allow a maximum speed of 80.

My wrist is still sore from holding the throttle at 85 to 90 MPH.

I wonder what would happen if you used a Speedo-Healer? Set it so instead of the speedometer reading 80 (and going 75), set it up so that when reading 80 you are actually going 85. I guess it depends upon where the cruise gets its signal for current speed.

You would just have to be careful not getting a ticket with the indicated speed less than actual.

Since my speedometer is off by about 10%, I always look at my Zumo for keeping track of my speed. I got into the habit when my speedo went out in my truck.

That should work fine. The cruise AND the speedo both pull timing pulses from the sensor on the driveshaft, and since the speedohealer changes those pulses, I believe that would work. We have some 80mph roads here in West Texas, on Interstate 10 and 20, but I never ride that far south of me. You could just use a throttle rocker, at least it would make it easier!

I don't know if its possible... BUt I thought I would throw this out and see if anybody has tried it.

Back when I rode a Goldwing GL1500... they have the same limits on the cruise. What someone figured out is if you clip the wires going into the cruise brain that tell it when the bike is in 4th or 5th gear and switch them... Then the cruise would allow a higher rpm in high gear. Effectivly fooling the cruise control.

I'm sure someone has thought if this... but its an idea. Has anybody looked into this type of thing?

Hmmm.. Interesting (picture Marty Johnson with his Nazi helmet on Laugh-In).

On this bike, the cruise control module doesn't know what gear the transmission is in. Neither does the ignition module. The overdrive indicator light is controlled by switches independently of these.

Reducing the speedo healer percentage is probably the easiest way to do this. How much adjustment is available on those things? I don't have one.

The cheap and dirty way that the guys are getting around the top speed limiter on the '09 VMX is to use a 555 timer chip, and design a circuit such that above a certain road speed, it cuts the speedo sensor pulses in half. That cuts the speedo reading in half too, but it works. They can be ridden faster than what their top speed is supposed to be limited to. And the true speed is not hard to figure. Just double the reading. This would be more work than the speedo healer, but cheaper too, if someone can design it. I don't have a lot of details on this. Squeeze would have more information on this kind of thing. What I wonder is if, on this bike, this thing could be applied only to the cruise control module and not affect the speedo at all.

Just so yall know, the newer Speedohealer has 2 settings, and you can toggle between them. One could be set for normal, accurate use, and the other could be set to read say, half normal, or 75% of normal. Just a thought. Of course, this would also result in an incorrect reading of how many miles you had traveled. Seems like it would be easier to use a throttle lock of some kind.

Hey, would this finally allow me to get more miles out of a rear tire?:smile5:

It appears the Speed-O-Healer is the solution of choice if I want the cruise to work the way I want it. However, the Throttle-Boss is a much easier way to fix this since I don't travel on the high speed roads very often.

I could have gone my entire life with out knowing that the cruise had an upper limit. I thought we were pretty progressive here with 110 speed limit ...kph that is, about 65 mph. Never had the opportunity to engage the cruise at 80-85 mph. Note to self (bucket list) M U S T visit West Texas!:hurts:
