Friend has this 99 Royal Star TD, been sitting uncovered in his garage for9 years. He has had out one time, put 43 miles on it. Bike has a total of 1,402 miles on it. I have never seen such a filthy specimen in my life! I have it in my garage now, trying to resurrect it. I need 4 carb kits. ANy one know where they can be bought without going to the stealership? This thing will be a beut once I get the ½" of dust and crud off of it.

Dang its good to have friends who own stuff they either don't want or are scared of.

A thousand miles in ten years? The poor unloved bike.

I can't help but wonder if swapping some 32mm carbs on it would be cheaper than buying four rebuild kits from a dealer.

This guy has 5 sets of carbs, the whole setup is cheaper than Yamaha wants for the needle/seat set for all 4 carbs.

Just to clarify my find, it is not a free bike, but just like the 86 I have, who knows how long I need to "keep it rideable" for him:mo money:. I have had the 86 for 10 years now, with the actual owner only putting 450 or so miles on it during the whole time.

This guy in Ohio has 5 sets of carbs, all claim to be 2000 or newer. Looking at the pics he has there are subtle diffrerences, the diaphragm covers on mine are chrome, with 4 bolts, and the enrichment knob is cable operated. The 2000 units appear to have plastic covers with 2 bolts and the enrichment plungers appear to be a solid rod activation. Can't see the throttle position sensor so unknown as to whether it is same or will interchange.

Any one care to hazard a guess at any chance they'll work?

Here is the article that tells you how to put the 32mm carbs that Pinwall has onto the early Royal Stars. It's not as difficult as it looks at first. It's really pretty easy. And it gives them a big increase in performance. Then you can sell off the silly 28mm carbs and intake boots and recover most or all of the cost.

So, those are 32mm carbs on ebay? I can't mod it to use those, now if this were mine,,,,not only would it get big carbs but the cams too. That is very impressive what you did.

When i had my 96 royal star classic, i did something called the 'Bigfoot' mod. Basically opened up the air box to let more air in and changed some jets. Seemed to give it more power. All in all, it was the best bike and the most comortable bike I have ever owned...just needed a bit more power. Perhaps the Dyna 3000 (is that the right number?) could be done which allowed higher revs in each gear. Probably a vmax rear end would really be the answer! Notice I have lots of ideas?:witch_brew:

If you can't do any modifications, you'll have to rebuild the stock 28mm carbs then, or find a good set on ebay from someone who swapped to the 32s.

And... what I did, you mean? That's my bike you're looking at. I developed that process for the early Royal Stars and wrote the article. I can make the adapter plates and mill the intakes for anyone who wants them. I've sold several sets of these. Being a machinist, I'm sure you can do that yourself, too. You were at Osgood this past weekend, weren't you? This bike was there.

Sorry, I fixed it. i did manage last night to get them to stop overflowing, but now one of them appears to be dead, so off they come again, for the third time.
