mmacpuguy Posted April 30, 2009 #1 Posted April 30, 2009 Mine is cracked and chipped - anyone have one to sell? Thanks and what a great site! ~Norm
MiCarl Posted April 30, 2009 #2 Posted April 30, 2009 I recently replaced mine. They are still available if you're willing to part with the $$.
Indyventure Posted April 30, 2009 #3 Posted April 30, 2009 need to replace mine too. so far the cheapest on-line I have found is here http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx it is listed under cowling SKU: 26H-2837M-01-00 PANEL, console 21$53.64 Bob
Indyventure Posted April 30, 2009 #4 Posted April 30, 2009 I also need to repalce the louvered vent on my right side cover..now they are salty! about $130 !
Monty Posted April 30, 2009 #5 Posted April 30, 2009 need to replace mine too. so far the cheapest on-line I have found is here http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx it is listed under cowling SKU: 26H-2837M-01-00 PANEL, console 2 1$53.64 Bob I found it to be under fairing.
timgray Posted April 30, 2009 #7 Posted April 30, 2009 need to replace mine too. so far the cheapest on-line I have found is here http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx it is listed under cowling SKU: 26H-2837M-01-00 PANEL, console 21$53.64 Bob Be wary of Babbits. They are local to me and they will say something is in stock until you pay for it. Then suddenly it's backordered for 6-8 weeks.
MiCarl Posted April 30, 2009 #8 Posted April 30, 2009 cheapcycleparts.com has it for $45.23. I rarely find parts cheaper elsewhere. Tricky part with them is their new website doesn't have fiches for older bikes. You need to look up your part numbers on the Yamaha web site then enter them in the quick order form. Now for the bad news - If you're looking for the piece that carries the CB and CLASS in a MKII you need part number 59J-28221-00-00 PANEL, TERMINAL2 $120.47
Indyventure Posted April 30, 2009 #9 Posted April 30, 2009 MiCarl, you are correct that is the right piece for waht I'm looking for. I was picking out the wrong one. ugh.. $$$$!! but it was under the cowling 1 fiche on babbits. thanks for the info. WOW this plastic is expensive on these older bikes. may have to live with the glued cracks for a bit longer. bob
timgray Posted April 30, 2009 #10 Posted April 30, 2009 I have found that if you fix the plastic right, so the cracks are firmly repaired, you can lightly sand it, clean it all down with painters prep and then repaint with, "black bumper and trim paint" It looks great and is a very close match to what it's supposed to look like without the sunfading. I'm hoping to find a only lightly cracked left radio top plate so I can fix mine that is in 30 pieces.
mother Posted April 30, 2009 #11 Posted April 30, 2009 last night i did a bunch of repairs to my right side Cb/compressor plastic panel with a product called Plastex. awesome stuff. just ordered some online last friday and it was at my door on tuesday. Tim, thanks for the tip on painting with black bumper and trim spray, i have a can out in the garage that i am going to try now that the panel is back in one piece. cheers, Scott
Indyventure Posted April 30, 2009 #12 Posted April 30, 2009 is the pastex an adhesive or is it formable for a filler? mine is in decent shape except for the left long edge, what I will call the return flange, that comes back to meet the dash face. That return flange is missing a few pieces and I'd like to be able to fill it in with a litle something something to blend it. Bob
mother Posted May 1, 2009 #13 Posted May 1, 2009 with Plastex you can attach broken off pieces, you can build up broken off sections, you can make your own mould and create your own pieces. check out their web site and watch the video, and have a look at some of the repairs that this stuff can be used for. i have tried fiberglass repair 5 minute epoxy plastic repair stuff from hardware stores and they all have peeled off over time
skydoc_17 Posted May 1, 2009 #14 Posted May 1, 2009 Here is a link to the site, good stuff! http://plastex.home.att.net/ Earl
