nascarnutt Posted April 26, 2009 #1 Posted April 26, 2009 Clutchless shifting that is. Once I get up to 3rd gear, alot of times I am guilty of shifting to 4th and 5th without the clutch. I let of the gas of course, but does it do any damage. It's pretty smooth. Just wondering if I am the only one?
fixit3546 Posted April 26, 2009 #3 Posted April 26, 2009 for as long as i can remember on everyy bike i have ever ridden. never nary a problem
dynodon Posted April 26, 2009 #4 Posted April 26, 2009 I use the clutch, I think you can verify that there is a little extra wear on the system, but the couple of times I just forgot to pull in the clutch, it seemed to work fine. Still, being in the habit of using the clutch, IMO makes things safer, for emergency stops etc?
Chuckles Posted April 26, 2009 #5 Posted April 26, 2009 Always use the clutch for take off and stopping. Most of the time don't need it to shift. I have been riding since the early 60's and have not had any problems with hurting the gears or clutch. Just seems easier to me to just shift without the clutch. Also do it without the clutch in all of the standard shift cars and trucks I have had over the years. Chuckles
KiteSquid Posted April 26, 2009 #6 Posted April 26, 2009 I use the clutch most of the time. I only use it in first and not the rest of the shifits, if I am accelerating hard.
krome rose Posted April 26, 2009 #7 Posted April 26, 2009 I've done it while no one was watching. Brandy
