ctraylor Posted April 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2009 I have an 86 Venture and am having some cruise control problems. As long as I set it below 60 mph it works fine but when I go over 70 it will gradually gain speed and all at once let off the accelerator until it returns to the original setting then reingauge. Has anyone had this problem before? I have a cousin that has the same problem with his which is a 90 model I think. Thank you,
5bikes Posted April 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2009 Take the right throttle twist grip off. Clean the handlebar and grease everything that moves. Lubricate the throttle cables with light oil. Adjust the cable tensions so there is about 1/8" slop. Make sure everything turns easy. May have to clean lubricate and adjust throttle linkages at the carbs too. Bet your cruise works correctly now, fixed 2 Ventures doing this.

6pak Posted April 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2009 Liz and I bought pilothawks '89 yesterday. Everything works except cruise. When I try to set it, I press the on button. I get all three lights on the dash below the key. When I try to set the cruise, the on light stays lit, the other 2 go out, but no cruise. Any Ideas? Thanks, Joe. 93 venture Posted April 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2009 When i first got my bike the cc would not work because clutch handle was wore out and not keeping the clutch switch closed, the other problem was when i would set the cc it would set but it would slowly loose speed, found vacume line cracked on the cc vacume pump.installed new hose and all was good. What it ended up being is the cable that runs from the Vacume pump to the throttle cable junction was so rusty and dirty that it would not actuate. I used some silcolene cable lube and a lube tool on the cable and now it works great every time:) I hope yours is the same, it sure sounds like this will do the trick for you. Good luck
