similost Posted April 24, 2009 #1 Posted April 24, 2009 I was getting ready to order the lower saddle bag rails from Yamaha today, and I noticed on Ruffy's bike, it appears he has another brand on them. I posted askign him what brand, but no reply yet, and I want to get my order in as soon as I can. Is there someone out there other than Yamaha making lower rails? It appears Ruffy's rails are a lot beefier and better made.
similost Posted April 24, 2009 Author #2 Posted April 24, 2009 I had just stumbled on the pictures of what was left ot Eck's bike (WOW, So sorry to see and hear that story) but I noticed he also had the same rails I am asking about. Anyone know the brand?
mashley Posted April 24, 2009 #3 Posted April 24, 2009 Eck's bag rails look just like the ones on my RSTD. They are the yamaha rails.
mashley Posted April 24, 2009 #4 Posted April 24, 2009 I just checked out Ruffy's photos, his look like the yamaha rails as well. I have personaly never seen any other manufactures for bag rails for the Ventures or Tour Deluxes. Hope this helps.
similost Posted April 24, 2009 Author #5 Posted April 24, 2009 Yep.. that does help. I guess they just look much beefier in real pictures then they do in the catalog. They look like pretty thin tubing in the catalog. Im'a learnin'
1BigDog Posted April 24, 2009 #6 Posted April 24, 2009 Didnt see the post yet....those are yamaha rails from 1999. Now if you want to swap those brand new "thinner" rails for my "Beefier" ones we can arrange something....
1BigDog Posted April 24, 2009 #7 Posted April 24, 2009 Just an idea, but those stock Yamaha saddlebag rails sometimes sit at an odd angle, usually higher at the rear and from the side they look slightly off. There is a mod out there where you can measure the mounting hole on the rear of the fender rail and drill a new hole to lower the breaket some to make it level with the bottom of the bags. I didnt want to drill into the fender rails so I ended up elongating the hole on the rear of the saddlebag rails at an angle which would allow it to slide up or down as needed. A little EyeBall engineering is all you need. And a good step drill bit....
similost Posted April 24, 2009 Author #8 Posted April 24, 2009 aaaahhhh.. so the new rails AREN'T as big huh? hhhhmmm... maybe some solid rod rails are in order... send them out to be chromed after making them.... I got mine ordered... but, if I don't like them, I think I see a next winter project about to happen... OH.. and I had already found the thread about leveling them out since they don't fit right... YA know.. I just don't understand Yamaha and their half assed stuff some times.
GuthDaddy17 Posted April 25, 2009 #9 Posted April 25, 2009 I orderd the non Yamaha ones on Ebay for $150, they are ok, but they are thinner. I think the Yamaha ones look better but the thinner ones did bend to parrallel the bags better.
raceman62race Posted April 25, 2009 #10 Posted April 25, 2009 I think Yamaha changed the design a while back. I inquired about the rails Yamaha sells looking different than several of the pics posted here and everyone here said they had Yamaha rails. The pic Yamaha shows on their accessories page looks different than most I have seen
