Greg Kendall Posted April 24, 2009 #1 Posted April 24, 2009 Does anybody know if the body parts for all 1st Gen. years are interchangeable? Specifically the fairing and side cover pieces. I have an '86 1300 and was wondering if pieces from an 83-85 1200 will fit it? Thanks.

Yup, with the exeption of the 83 side covers, as there is different bottom attachments & no opening for the fuel valve. There was no reserve position on the 83 fuel valve.... The Mk2 side covers also had vents on the side covers, where the Mk1 are open.
Greg Kendall Posted April 24, 2009 Author #3 Posted April 24, 2009 Thanks, Rocket. Yeah, I forgot about the reserve fuel valve. Actually, I am more interested in Fairing pieces. My right half is pretty busted up; trying to find a replacement, and was hoping the years were interchangeable.
bongobobny Posted April 24, 2009 #4 Posted April 24, 2009 They are physically interchangeable but there is a slight difference in the paint scheme if you are trying to match colors. TRhe main difference is on the upper fairing where the accent paint ends on MK1 vs MK2...
Greg Kendall Posted May 13, 2009 Author #5 Posted May 13, 2009 Anybody know a good source for touch up paint? I need small quantities of both the black and tan for my '86 VR. I have the codes, but can't locate a supplier.

Greg Kendall Posted May 13, 2009 Author #7 Posted May 13, 2009 Colorrite's site doesn't bring up anything but Honda when I type in 1986. I guess they don't carry Yamaha colors that old. Any other thoughts? BTW, my local Yamaha dealer also suggested Colorrite as the place they get all their paint, so I don't think even they can get this color. Maybe from Yamaha, but it will be pricey.
gscbertrand Posted May 13, 2009 #8 Posted May 13, 2009 You could try going to a body shop supplier and get them to mix the colour you need. Some of our local places can put the colour in a spray can.
friesman Posted May 14, 2009 #9 Posted May 14, 2009 I took my trunk and side panels to a custom bike builder and they took it to an automotive paint supplier and they matched to my good body panels. The only time I can see any difference is in very bright sunshine and I think that is just because there isnt any swirls in the new paint yet. Brian
Freebird Posted May 14, 2009 #10 Posted May 14, 2009 You might try this place. I think they have the colors for the '86. http://www.cyclecolor.com/id3.htm
