There is a fellow RSVer here in Oz selling a set and I'm just curious as to their lineage. Well known brand? He says they're made in the US. Would appreciate any info you can throw my way. Cheers. Should have them on within a week, so I'll let y'all know how they sound. Woo hooo. Can't wait to hear myself. (Yeah right, and I'm sure the neighbours can't wait either!)

spear Posted October 8, 2007 Author #8 Posted October 8, 2007 Finally had a chance to fit my Samson Shogun pipes today. Fired her up, and - - WHOA MUMMA! I LOVE IT. Just idling in the shed was magic. Wait until I get her out on the road. BTW - mother is NOT impressed!
Freebird Posted October 8, 2007 #9 Posted October 8, 2007 Yep...and they don't get an quieter. At least they pretty much stay the same. No packing to burn out so what you have is what you'll pretty much always have. I used to have Samsons with the turndowns but got tired of the noise after a while.

They look great outa the box but don't last long, the chrome is crap, and quality nothing to brag about. Now maybe thay have gotten better in the last couple of years I don't know and I'm actually in the market for new mufflers but they would be the very last set that I would ever consider buying. But again I'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble just letting you know what I have seen.
spear Posted October 9, 2007 Author #11 Posted October 9, 2007 I've kept my originals, so I can replace them any time I need to. If the Samsons turn to crap, then it's a 15 minutes job to swap over. If the chrome goes on them, I'll run them into my electroplater mate for a re-coating. All is well in the land of noize!

I don't think the quality was as good as the Khromewerks but I never had any problem with the chrome or discoloration. I removed them because I decided to go with a quieter mufflers but they looked about as good when I took them off as when they were new.

Freebird Posted October 9, 2007 #14 Posted October 9, 2007 You would think so. BUT...I had the turnouts. They weren't too loud until I got in the mountains. Long rides in the mountains, the sound reverberating off the rocks really started getting to me. Not just the Samsons though. I ended up running Khromerwerks for a year or so after that and finally ended up going back to stock mufflers. Not even drilled out, just good old QUIET stock mufflers.
spear Posted October 9, 2007 Author #15 Posted October 9, 2007 I'll let you know in about 20 hours how mine went. I'm riding to work tomorrow - 28kms each way - so that'll give me a fair idea. No mountains, just long, flat, straight and open highway for 25 kms until I get into the city limits. Be interesting to see what they sound like between buildings.
spear Posted October 12, 2007 Author #16 Posted October 12, 2007 Didn't get to ride to work as I planned. Had to do some BIG pick-ups so took the Subie instead. However - yesterday did a run into town to get a few items I needed to start a tiling job. I must say I'M IMPRESSED with the sound. Sounded too loud in the shed (obviously) before I left, but once out on the road, man - what a burble. Took me back to my old days of the K2 Honda 750/4 with the 4 into 1. I think mother has given her approval (huh!)
