Tom Posted April 22, 2009 #1 Posted April 22, 2009 http://www.starmotorcycles.com/assets/accessories/250/str4xy492000-250.jpg Has Anyone ever used this mini tank cover on their 2nd Gens? I am rubbing the paint off of my tank where my knees ride against it and need something to put a stop to it. Pros and Cons? Thanks,Tom
Gary N. Posted April 22, 2009 #2 Posted April 22, 2009 HI Tom, I've got one but it's only held on with velcro and it started coming off on one side so I took it back off. I need to take the tank off and flip it over and glue the velcro on better. I don't really like the look of it on the tank but it does protect the paint. Gary
Tom Posted April 22, 2009 Author #3 Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks Gary..Im going to try and figure something out that looks OK and durable..
thecount Posted April 23, 2009 #5 Posted April 23, 2009 Give Troy in Florida a contact. He rides an RSTD and have a tank bib with a lower tank cover done in leather. He calls it a California Tank Bra. Not sure the cost. Looks like some great quality and work. Sorry for the commercial plug, but the guy is getting started. http://www.tscustomleather.com/
Guest BluesLover Posted April 23, 2009 #6 Posted April 23, 2009 Tom - I had one on the 06. I had it under the tank bib - you can see it fairly well in the picture below. I used some heavy duty double sided tape on the inside lip of the tank to put the velcro on, and that kept it pretty solid. Cheers,
Sleeperhawk Posted April 23, 2009 #7 Posted April 23, 2009 I have one on my 08 and had one on my 05. First of all do not put the bib over the black rubber center piece. If you do or the shop installs it like that, it will billow up and catch all kinds of garbage. Pull the black rubber center piece up some, stretch the bib over tank with velcro, then lay the center piece back down. Never have an issue with the velcro coming loose and not catching the garbage.

Guest BluesLover Posted April 23, 2009 #9 Posted April 23, 2009 Thought all the snow in St Thomas was gone! It is! That picture was taken early in 2008, before the RSV was "retired" ... Cheers,
thecount Posted April 23, 2009 #10 Posted April 23, 2009 It is! That picture was taken early in 2008, before the RSV was "retired" ... Cheers, Just having some fun. Riding through to London Friday and Saturday for work this weekend. Looking like some good weather. Back to the topic. Troy's leather work looks awesome. He is easy to deal with in Florida and pricing is good for custom. I have him doing some work for me in the very near future. California tank bra, with a removeable pocket/pouch, and then a pair of saddlebag leather top covers. Will post the photos when done. Will have to take the rubber centre tank bib off to make work.
Sideoftheroad Posted April 23, 2009 #11 Posted April 23, 2009 I have both on my bike. The mini bib towards the bottom of the tank isn't sticking very well at all. Not sure how long it has been on there as it came w/ the bike. There is a guy making custom tank bibs for the VTX's. I thought for a winter project I would see if he would make me new ones in leather. I will check out Troy's stuff as well. I wonder if it all could be made as one piece.

Guest Saddletramp Posted April 23, 2009 #13 Posted April 23, 2009 I have the mini-bib on mine and haven't had a problem with it. Just remember to clean under the edge of the tank with the alchohol swab provided. You will get a better fit if you remove your tank and the bib is warmed to install it. I installed mine after I brushed the tank with my boot heal. As stated by another post removing the factory rubber strip will definetly give a better fit. The tank bib with pockets on it then fits right over it without a problem.
