Cougar Posted August 15, 2007 #1 Posted August 15, 2007 Can you folks tell me the difference between the Zumo 450 and the Zumo 550? Besides the $500.00 difference? Also , I just want a great GPS with all the maps easy to use and TALKS! I have been using an old Street-Pilot for the past couple years now. but It is such a hassle to always have to Map stuff via computer. Thanks for any input! I was looking at this, http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Gamin-Zumo-450-Motorcycle-GPS-Navigator/2261924/product.html Jeff
FreezyRider Posted August 15, 2007 #2 Posted August 15, 2007 I don't know the difference, but if you buy the 450 it's cheaper here: http://www.shipdog.com/product.asp?i=GARZUMO450&ref=pricegrabber&sku=010-00567-05
Midrsv Posted August 15, 2007 #3 Posted August 15, 2007 The Zumo 550 is less than $200 more than the 450. I bought mine here: http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=GRZUMO550 I don't know all of the differences but I believe the 550 adds XM capable, bluetooth phone compatible and MP3 player. I use the bluetooth phone and XM phone features on mine all of the time. The XM option adapter adds another $200 or so. I highly recommend the either unit. DT
Jim M Posted August 15, 2007 #4 Posted August 15, 2007 I just bought a Zumo 450 last week, I paid $569.99 for it also got a auto mount for the car and a 12 volt adapter. Total price was $676.92 works good in the car and bike. You get the Zumo and power cable cord and motorcycle mount for the $569.00 it is very easy to use and it does talk. The Zumo 550 has a few more features to it and it comes with the auto mount. I did not need the other features,so for the price difference Igot the 450. www.megagps.com
gibvel Posted August 15, 2007 #5 Posted August 15, 2007 Try this link. It should take you to a comparison of the two on the Garmin site: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?compareProduct=8582&compareProduct=414&compare=compare actually, this one may be a better link. Look at the right hand column both are in one column and it will say "no for 450 Yes for 550" where there is a difference: http://www.gpsnow.com/garmin_zumo_550.htm
Guest driscollms Posted August 16, 2007 #6 Posted August 16, 2007 Cougar, I have had the 550 for several months now. I really like it. I was able to combine two gagets into one - GPS and XM radio. I believe the 450 and 550 are basically the same regarding GPS functions. The 550 adds the capability for XM with a separate antenna/receiver. Good luck, I think you will like either unit...all depends on what you want to use it for. Mark
Cougar Posted August 16, 2007 Author #7 Posted August 16, 2007 What fast service. THANKS GUYS! looks like the 550 is more blue-tooth and XM ready. (don't really care for the blue-tooth. and I have done the XM) now IPOD! But the other feature that the 550 has over the 450 is that it will say the Street Name instead of turn in 500 feet. (I Like that part! Anyways Thanks so much for ALL of your input! LOOK HERE... ( oohh my is this right for the 550? ) http://www.onsale.com/shop/detail~dpno~7126781~descr~Garmin+International-zumo+550+Rugged+Motorcycle+GPS+Navigator.aspx (good price?_ what am I missing?) all I need is the Unit. I do not need anymore maps or whatever right? Thanks, Jeff

Phoenix Posted August 27, 2007 #11 Posted August 27, 2007 If you plan on using it in your car as well as on your motorcycle, I would recommend going with the 550. The reason I say this, is because the 550 comes with an Auto mount, 12v auto cord, and AC cord. The total of buying these accessories separately (they don't come with the 450) is more than the difference in cost between the 450 and the 550. The best price I've found for the 550 is $656.40 with free 3-day shipping from PCNation.com http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=6G0330 The also have the 450 for $511.80 http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=6G0665 Phoenix
Cougar Posted September 5, 2007 Author #12 Posted September 5, 2007 Decided to go with the 550 @ PC Nation for $652.40 with free shipping! Yippy Skippy! I also ordered a 8 gig SD card as well. SO exciting! Thanks for all your help. Jeff
Cougar Posted September 6, 2007 Author #13 Posted September 6, 2007 Got it here... http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=6G0330 Jeff
Cougar Posted September 6, 2007 Author #14 Posted September 6, 2007 Today it is $647.40 mayeb I can get money back. *lol*
BradT Posted September 7, 2007 #15 Posted September 7, 2007 If you plan on using it in your car as well as on your motorcycle, I would recommend going with the 550. The total of buying these accessories separately (they don't come with the 450) is more than the difference in cost between the 450 and the 550. I cheated with the 450. I put a two prong quick disconnect in the line, and when I go to the Car, I have a 12 volt plug with a two prong quick disconnect that plugs into the wire from the Zumo Cradle. I also had a suction ram mount that attaches it to the windshield. Cost me 5 bucks for the two plugs. Ram suction mount was given to me. Brad
