I occasionally surf thru ebay and have found some good stuff and some junk. I am also amazed at what some of these folks think their stuff is worth. It is not uncommon to see something listed for a buy-it-now price of $150 and on the next page, the same thing listed for $20 and still no or very few bids.

My question, as it pertains to this forum is; if I see something I think others may need or want, should I flag it to the masses on here? Because, when I am watching something that I want, I don't want someone blabbing to the world about it. When I am bidding, I kind of feel it is everyone else's tough luck if they do not spend the effort to look on ebay. But, when I come across something I think you guys may want, I want to flag it to the group.

I would really like to know how others feel about this.

I 'd been there, and as I have an 84 also been ripped by ebayers stealers....

Better start asking in the forum if somebody has the part you're looking for.

Sometimes, you can be realizing you're going to pay more on ebay than on Yamaha dealer for the same part.

I would rather ask here for parts than ebay. I would rather give my biker brothers here the money than someone who I dont know.

As for finding something on ebay that others may like, that would be a very nice thing to do as some people are not ebay-savvy.

Ebay "bargains" are getting more and more scarce. Very few actual auctions. Mostly "buy it now" at above retail with shipping added. I look at the RSV listings often but mostly never find anything worth while. Have any of you wondered why you would strip down an essentially new RSV "in good running order" just to part it out on ebay? Why not sell the bike intact? Strikes me wrong.

Good deals are out there on ebay, but you have to look for them.... I've got several items at a good price off there, but if you're not careful you can end up paying more than retail. I think that is called getting caught up in the bidding.... :2cents:

I'd just keep quite about it unless you happen to remember someone posting a need for the part on this site and you don't want it.... Otherwise, if it's something you personally need take your best shot, and let the chips fall where they may. If someone gets put off because they were out bid by another member.. that's tough. You just wanted it more than they did. :whistling:

I've got a box of stuff from my first gens that I was planning to bring to maint day if I can find a way to lug it down there. If I get it there, cost for everything will be the buyer's perspective on a reasonable donation to VR.org.

I know Venture stuff can be tough to find - especially at a reasonable price for something in decent shape.

First piece of advice is to mention it here if you're looking for something. I know in my case I just never get around to listing, photographing etc. all the crap I have, but would gladly help a fellow VR member if I can.

As far as the ebay stuff - your call on mentioning it here. My experience with our group is that we tend to be pretty civil about letting someone go for something, first post first served, if they mention it on the notification thread.

Probably because the bike's been down and has a Salvage title. Some states will not allow a salvage titled vehicle to be put back onto the road, even after it's been repaired.

Plus parting out a wrecked bike will bring more money then selling a complete wrecked bike.

It doesn't take much to financially total out a full dressed bike if all the plastic has been damaged.

I check eBay listing pretty much every day. I buy mostly NOS items that are for my stock of items that will be needed when something wears out. I have parts and price info my system so I know what the part is worth and set a limit for my bids. And yes some to the prices and insane! I see stuff that you can still order from the dealers for for 3 times what it worth. If I can't get it for my limit, I'll wait for another.

I've been burned with some junk stuff a couple of times as I wasn't paying attention. Ask the seller questions and look real close at the pics. I just bought an item that had 4 pics posted. When I received it there was a broken weld that wasn't shown at any angle in the pics. Good photography.....bad seller. And I had asked him about the condition before I bid. Good answer, my bad. I wasn't specific on the welds so another lesson for me.

As far as bringing up a hot item here......if I know somebody is looking for that part I'll shoot them a PM. That is if I don't want it. LOL! I've been slapped a couple of times when I mentioned something I bought and it ended up I was bidding against another member. Sorry guys.......:buttkick:

I bought an item a few weeks ago that was NOS. Something I wanted for a while but not available anymore. It was a Buy it Now listing and it had just popped up while I was searching. I took one look and bought it for about 1/2 of what it sold for in the '80's.

The seller contacted me and said there were 35 people watching it when I bought it and it had only been posted for about 20 minutes. Buyers were contacting him asking what happened to the item. Well......it sold. When it's something you want......shoot from the hip.

But if we start posts for every decent item we see on eBay, we will just bidding against each other and wasting time looking here.

Just my :2cents:

I know I, for one, have helped numerous dealers get more money for their items...

:sign20:Amen to that brother.... :rotf:

Just got to thinkin'. I just went over 500 transactions and have been buying...and doing a little selling..on Ebay for the last 10 years. If every 'buy' averaged $30 bucks, I've helped fatten a lot wallets..... :)
