Freebird Posted April 18, 2009 #1 Posted April 18, 2009 OK folks, Eileen and I will be leaving for Boston in just a little while. I will start the radiation treatments on Monday. There will be 5 consecutive days of radiation and then we'll head home on Friday. In the meantime, if you have purchased a membership through PayPal, it should be indicated in your UserCP under "Paid Subscriptions". I think I have them all entered so if yours does not show up, then let me know. If you mailed a check, it may or may not be there yet. I have entered the information for the checks that I have received to date but I'm sure that some have not arrived yet. If you paid by check and don't see a paid subscription in your profile, don't worry about it, I'm sure your check will be here when I get home and I'll get everybody updated then. I really want to thank each and every one of you who have subscribed. Some have gone far beyond what was asked and please know that it is sincerely appreciated. I have been snowed under and have not been able to email each of you personally but please know that your kindness is so much appreciated. While I am gone, please give some thought to how you would like the forum to be handled. There are several ways I can do it now. We can have it open for all to read but only paid members to post. We can have it with a short trial membership but only members can read OR post once the trial ends. We can leave it just like it is and simply add some time of indicator to the posts that indicates supporting members. I am open to all suggestions and your opinions are what count. Give it some thought and let me hear your suggestions. I will have my computer with me and hopefully feel like checking in each day. I don't know what else to say at this point. You are the greatest group of folks I have ever been associated with. This entire ordeal has been and continues to be a humbling experience.
eagleeye Posted April 18, 2009 #2 Posted April 18, 2009 Good luck Don, and I hope your treatment goes well. Steve
cecdoo Posted April 18, 2009 #3 Posted April 18, 2009 Good Luck to you in Boston, you are in our thoughts, if you feel up to it, please keep us up to date. Take care. Craig

Redneck Posted April 18, 2009 #5 Posted April 18, 2009 Good luck with the treatment you will be in our thoughts.

I wish you all the best on your trip to Boston and I know that God is watching over you. You are in our prayers and I know they will be answered. Regarding your subscription suggestions then I would do it the following way: 1. Open for all to read but only paid members can post. 2. Fully open trial membership for fourteen days. 3. An indicator to the posts that shows if the member is on trial or is a subscribed supportive member. And then of cause the member list would have to be updated. Not saying that my suggestions are the only right thing to do - only my thoughts on the issue. Looking forward to see you in 1 month - 2 weeks and 5 days (who´s counting) Greetings from Greenland (of all places)
Squidley Posted April 18, 2009 #7 Posted April 18, 2009 All the best in this trial my friend, were pulling for you as much as we can.
Bubber Posted April 18, 2009 #8 Posted April 18, 2009 I am sure that I speak for many here. ALL we want is for you to concentrate on your health and getting better. All the other stuff can wait. Know that are thoughts and prayers are with you every step of the way and so is the man upstairs. Safe trip! God bless and get well soon. Steve Stelter and the all the VentureRiders

Monty Posted April 18, 2009 #13 Posted April 18, 2009 Good luck, and have a safe trip there and back.
Cinderella Posted April 18, 2009 #14 Posted April 18, 2009 this deserves more than that "little" huggy we have here...so heres two big huggys http://www.100megsfree3.com/fwc493/SmileyDirectory12/HugBig4_T.gif http://www.100megsfree3.com/fwc493/SmileyDirectory12/HugBig5_T.gif
Guest Saddletramp Posted April 18, 2009 #15 Posted April 18, 2009 Freebird, first and foremost take care of yourself and get better. The site can wait until you're feeling up to it again. However since it has been your baby from the inception I somehow think that saying that is easier then doing it. My opinion would be a free trial membership of 2-4 wks and then access to forums by members only. But first things first------take care of yourself,,,,please!!!!
Tom Posted April 18, 2009 #16 Posted April 18, 2009 Our thoughts and Prayers are with you Don. Take care .Tom and Debby
BobE Posted April 18, 2009 #17 Posted April 18, 2009 Don and Eileen, Drive safely and you folks will be in my thoughts and prayers for your first treatment. I am looking at my fourth round this Friday, but I don't need to travel halfway across the country to git-r-done like you have to. With all the prayers going with you, the treatments can do nothing but help you! In regards to the subscription issue, the two issues we found over at The Venturers with our 2-week trial is that some people would misunderstand that they were on a two-week trial and become angry when their access was shut off after the trial had ended. The other issue is monitoring is required to keep track of the trials and to notify them when it's up. If you can create an automatic way of doing all that, and I'm sure you'll figure out something, then that little problem is solved. The main issue is making sure the people FULLY understand it is a two-week trial, after which they will be denied access unless they pay. A bit too stressful for my tastes these days... If you want to make folks want to join, I personally think limited access right up front is better, maybe making a couple of topic areas viewable to the non-member so they can see the personality of this group and will want to join to see more. That way there is no misunderstanding, and you can use your considerable sales experience to laud what's available on the rest of the site to paid members. Everything is stated up front with no misunderstandings, no ill feelings. A lot less stressful...and stress is definitely one thing you don't need right now. Just my thoughts from a newbie.... May nothing but good things come to you in Boston!
bongobobny Posted April 18, 2009 #18 Posted April 18, 2009 We'll be praying for you, Don!! Yah, read only for non members to let them decide if they want to join in. Maybe a little longer trial period, like 30 days. Perhaps a premium membership option with a private forum area for them, but not sure if I like or dislike that idea.
BuddyRich Posted April 18, 2009 #19 Posted April 18, 2009 Good luck with the treatments Don. We continue to pray for you. We'll try not to burn the place down while you gone.
DragonRider Posted April 18, 2009 #20 Posted April 18, 2009 Don, dont worry about the minor details, they will still be here when you are feeling better, the mods can handle everything else in your absence......take a break, and concentrate on you.......... Everything here is minor compared to what you are up against. God Bless Lewis & Charlene
Cabinetman Posted April 18, 2009 #21 Posted April 18, 2009 Hey Don, Praying for you and your hole family. May God richly bless you and keep you in His hands! What ever you deside for this site is fine with me. You and all the others on here are alsome. Thanks again for all that you do on here. Cabinetman
MidlifeVenture Posted April 18, 2009 #24 Posted April 18, 2009 Are thoughts will be with you. Safe travels and positive outcomes..
1BigDog Posted April 18, 2009 #25 Posted April 18, 2009 Don, prayers are sent that all will go well in Boston. Have a safe trip and be well. Now, im not sure if you will be up to it, but there is (unless its no longer there) a pub in downtown Boston called Whiskeys pub and they have the best St Louis BBQ ribs that I have ever eaten. Clam Chowder aint the only thing in Boston ya know.....even though its pretty good there too.
