Dave77459 Posted April 15, 2009 #1 Posted April 15, 2009 I bought a pair of the Diamond R swinging pegs for my passenger. To install, the rear floorboard bolt needs to be removed. The left side one was very tight, but it came out. The right side one is beyond tight. I was using the bike toolkit since I wanted to install them at lunch and surprise her after work. The L-shaped "allen wrench" didn't move it, so I used the tube to make a breaker bar. No joy. I don't want to damage the bolt, so I stopped. Is the bolt really that tight? Should I use penetrating oil? Ideas? Dave
BoomerCPO Posted April 15, 2009 #2 Posted April 15, 2009 Dave....Try a good snort of WD-40 and tap the bolt lightly for a minute or so........... Boomer.....who knows that WD-40 makes terlet seats real slick too......

Boomer.....who knows that WD-40 makes terlet seats real slick too...... I have a cabinet full of penetrating oils, from when I needed to remove a front axle pinch bolt that was rusted in place. I also have an impact wrench from the same experience. Also? A tap and die set. I'd just as soon avoid going through all that again! One of my solvents actually freezes the bolt too. You might try that on a toilet seat for a different experience. Dave
jemorrisonjr Posted April 15, 2009 #4 Posted April 15, 2009 Mine were tight also, but a little extra force popped them loose for me when I installed the pegs for my wife
Freebird Posted April 15, 2009 #5 Posted April 15, 2009 I've got a set of sockets that work on my half inch drive rachet. I find that they are much better on those tight bolts than the typical allen wrenches.
Dave77459 Posted April 16, 2009 Author #6 Posted April 16, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions. Spraying it with PB penetrating oil, then tapping it did the trick. Looks great! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3344/3445876735_5ff26675af_m.jpg (OK, so it's a bit gratuitous, but the pegs are sexy!)
