OK not having a metering valve on my Mk1, where/how does it physically mount, and I assume (ass u me) that the arrow points downstream to the front caliper, right? Also, how does the bleedeer orient/mount? The picture in the service manual leaves a lot to be desired. Someone please post pictures, or if you happen to be local stop over. I promise to not let Big Tom near the garage that day...

All of the first gens have a metering valve unless someone has removed it.

No, you are thinking of the proportioning valve on the rear master, which sends fluid to the front after the rear caliper engages and builds up a back pressure. The metering valve is physically located near the steering neck and has that last bleed point for bleeding the line from the back to the front. That bleed is the highest point on the line from the back to the front. It's pretty much an oriface for regulating flow to the front brake...

I'm guessing here, but the pics I've seen have the arrow pointing towards front caliper, I assume it's a flow arrow. Wish I had one on my MK1.

Good luck

PS did you find your drill yet?!!

Hey Bob,

The arrow should direct brake fluid flow to the left front wheel. On the MK2s there is a tab welded on the right side of the frame with a hole in it that is approx. 5/8" diameter. The metering valve is held in the tab with a jam nut. You might be able to take a piece of 1" flat bar, drill the large hole in it for the valve body and then a small hole in the other end for a screw or pop rivit. Just a thought. If you need me to I could take a pic of the tab, but I do not have the metering valve or brake lines on my 87'VR any more since the R1 Upgrade.

Mine is mounted on the neck, right behind the vin #. It is centered in the neck. The steel line from the back comes into it from the right, and the arrow points to the back of the bike, with the front caliper hose attached there.

Rotate your picture 90 degrees to the left, and that's how it sits.

hey bob dont know if this will help, but this is a pic of my 91. I took the pic from the left hand side of the bike looking up through the bottom of the fairing over the front forks. Left hand side being that I was faceing the bike. Looking at the front my left. I had the camera turned side ways to get a good pic. there is a black line that the arrow points to.

If you kneed more pics just let me know and I'll do what I can. Hope this helps.

Yes, a picture tells a thousand words!!! Thanks everyone, I will screw the steel line directly into it, the arrow points downstream as I suspected, and I'm sure I can adlib the mounting!!
