yamahacruiserman Posted April 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2009 Looking to replace slip-ons on 97 RSTD. Looking to get a deeper, richer sound, not too loud but with some rumble. Any recommendations? Also, what is "packing" mean for exhausts? Thanks in advance!
BoomerCPO Posted April 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2009 Packing refers to the fiberglass material for the muffler baffles.....the more packing the less noise/rumble. Boomer.....who tossed the baffles on his Baron's Nasty Boy mufflers.... and is well known and loved for waking all the neighborhood dogs when heading out at 4AM on his Venture. yamahacruiserman Posted April 9, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 9, 2009 Thanks BoomerCPO, how do you check the existing packing in there or is that something a shop should do?
BoomerCPO Posted April 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 9, 2009 On my Baron's I pulled the baffles before I installed them on my Venture. You should be able to do the same if the pipes are off your scoot. I'm pretty sure you have to pull the baffles just to check the amount of packing that is there. Boomer.....who they all hear coming and going.....even the blue haired deaf ones.
Ponch Posted April 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 9, 2009 If you replace your stock pipes, I would be interrested in the old ones if in good shape.
tazmocycle Posted April 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 10, 2009 you can go to youtube.com and put in venture, royal star or tazmocycle and it will pull up video clips of differant bike and mufflers. tazmocycle is my bike with sampson fishtails and bubs header pipes. i think they sound good, the kromewerks sounds a lot like mine, just a little deeper sound. you can also checkout this site, it's more for the 96-01 standard royal stars; http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/start most of the stock mufflers are solid-welded mufflers and you cann't pull out the baffles.
