a1bummer Posted April 7, 2009 #1 Posted April 7, 2009 Is there any difference between the carbs from an 83 and an 84? I've been wanting to rebuild my carbs on my 84 to try and get my mileage back into the high 30's and low 40's. Right now it's in the low to mid 30's. I have a set of carbs from an 83 that I started pulling apart the other day. They were pretty nasty looking inside the bowls. The floats looked pretty good and the diaphrams have holes in them. I'm gonna weight the floats in a few minutes to see how close they are to each other. I have a scale that goes 3 or 4 decimal places that should work good.

I know the fuel needles and seats are different and the vacuum pick-up for the timing comes off of a port on the carb instead of the intake. Dick
a1bummer Posted April 8, 2009 Author #3 Posted April 8, 2009 I'm hoping the floats are still the same? All my floats were 4.445g, 4.395g, 4.363g, and 4.287g. So I'm guessing they are all good. Not that I know how much they are supposed to weight.

When researching if parts from different years are the same I go to the First generation tech library on this forum and go to the last thread which is: Guides, Parts diagrams. This has all the schematics of the first gens and part numbers listed by years. I just look up the part number of the two years of bikes and see if they are the same. If they are the same then I know there is no difference, if the parts have different part numbers, then I ask questions on this forum to see if the new part number is for an up grade and will still work.
