lobo17 Posted April 6, 2009 #1 Posted April 6, 2009 When I down shift my cycle backfires at times. The choke is pushed in all the way and for a bike that is nine years old it runs great. Any suggestions on fixing this problem? I had never had any problems until now. Thanks
Monty Posted April 7, 2009 #2 Posted April 7, 2009 Sounds like it is leaning out for one reason or another. Any exhaust leaks up close to the engine?
V7Goose Posted April 7, 2009 #3 Posted April 7, 2009 99% chance you have a vacuum leak. Replace the rubber caps on the intake manifold nipples and all will probably be instantly OK. This issue has been discussed at great depth in many threads here in case you want more info. It is generally very easy to fix. You are close to me - bring it over and we'll get it all fixed and tuned up nice. Goose
BradT Posted April 7, 2009 #4 Posted April 7, 2009 When mine does that I sync the carbs and it normally goes away, except for when I was running in the mountains out west. Others have plugged or removed the AIS system. I think Al Bates had a right for it a long time ago BRad
Beau-Kat Posted April 8, 2009 #5 Posted April 8, 2009 Could be air getting into the exhaust somewhere. Oxygen in there helps to ignite unburned fuel/fumes causing backfire. Mine was doing it. Disconnected and plugged the AIS. No more backfires.
midnightventure Posted April 12, 2009 #6 Posted April 12, 2009 Mine also quit doing that after carb synch.
