Maritimer Posted April 5, 2009 #1 Posted April 5, 2009 OK one more question popped to mind. What else do I need to remove from the wheel to get a new tire on it? and get it balanced? Do I need to remove the Disk and any other stuff from the drive side or the brake side of the wheel to get this done? Does the wheel need to be bare of all that is not and integral part of it? Thanks for all the help on this.
Guest Swifty Posted April 5, 2009 #2 Posted April 5, 2009 Whatever pops off with the wheel when you pull out the axle stays on when you balance it. The disk stays on.
flb_78 Posted April 5, 2009 #3 Posted April 5, 2009 Leave the disc on, it's not good to remove it and install too many times. It could possibly warp. Plus, Yamaha uses some sort of super loc-tite to hold the bolts in.

Also it can be reused for your next tire and that saves money go to hear and read . I have Metzelers on my Venture now but I might try something different next time (in a month or two). A lot of people seem to like the Michelin Commanders but I don't know if any local dealers carry them. Do you have your bike on the road, yet? I did my first (short) ride of the year on March 21 and have been out a few times since then. Ross

Bikenut, I had read on those before and could'nt fine anyone around who dealt with those. Now on your link, there was a "search for a dealer near you" button and lo and behold, my buddy 4 miles away started dealing with it. He is the one putting my tire on....I'll make sure he balances with those. I read a ton of good comments on them. Thanks for that

Maritimer Posted April 6, 2009 Author #9 Posted April 6, 2009 I'm picking it up at OK Tire in Ste-Mary's tomorrow and I will have Eric's in Oromocto put it on for me. He will put the tire on the rim but not the rim on the bike. He says he won't be held responsible this way. Do you have your scoot out yet? Once the new rubber is on I'll keep mine out for the season. I'll keep you posted on the tire.

Maritimer Posted April 6, 2009 Author #12 Posted April 6, 2009 I will have this tonight. I'll keep you posted. Now one more question: Is this gonna cause me problems? When I removed my rear wheel, 1 muffler came out nicely while the other need some persuasion. Once both were out, the one that came out nice had no gasket on it but the other one had a gasket around the pipe that stayed on the bike. Is that normal? Shouldn't there be a gasket on both or on none? Should I even worry about that? Thanks again for all the help.

Scoot's been out since March 21. Maybe 500 km or so since then - just riding around the area. There should be a gasket on both sides. You may have issues with excess noise, exhaust gas leakage and poor performance with uneven/too low backpressure. I would make sure its sealed up well before reassembly. Who changed out your rear tire the last time??? Ross
Maritimer Posted April 6, 2009 Author #14 Posted April 6, 2009 First time putting a new one on. It is an 06 and I didn't ride much last year. I have 19,000KM on it. I'll go by MacLean and see if I can pick up a gasket for it when I get across the river this morning. I would have had mine out earlier but I was waiting for my new tire to come it before I really took it out. We should get together for a ride when the weather improves.

There have been some good part days but it has either been too cool or too wet to get started early enough in the day to get anywhere. Weather not looking great for the next week or so. Ross
Maritimer Posted April 9, 2009 Author #16 Posted April 9, 2009 Woo Hoo! Finally got it on. Took just over 100 LBS to make it seat. Now just a matter of putting the DynaBeads in it and mounting it back on the bike. Thanks all for your help.
