maxantinlive.com Posted April 2, 2009 #1 Posted April 2, 2009 When taking the cover off the left side of 83' ,I dont know and cant find info on the proper removal instructions, I took off the smaller plate that is heald on with the 2 screws, then there is a bolt that connects to the crank, my question is does that nut need to come off to remove the cover or do I need to just work harder at pulling the cover off, THANX!!!!
Yammer Dan Posted April 2, 2009 #2 Posted April 2, 2009 What are you doing? I don't understand but fairly sure no. Just the screws around the outside of the cover.
maxantinlive.com Posted April 2, 2009 Author #3 Posted April 2, 2009 HI DAN,Iam taking off all the covers on motor so i can take off the plastic coating,I am stuck on the left side cover, the small plate that is heald on with the two screws is off,the cover seems to be quite stubborn, I was wondering if I have to take off the nut that is under the small cover ,it looks like the nut is bolted to the crank, what I am wondering is do I need to take the nut off to remove the cover.THANX!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yammer Dan Posted April 2, 2009 #4 Posted April 2, 2009 I don't remember right now will have to check but pretty sure not.
Yammer Dan Posted April 2, 2009 #6 Posted April 2, 2009 Rubber Hammer or something like that so you won't damage it. Someone else will be in here or I will get chance to look little later. That is Stator cover and that is bolt that holds stator in place I think. Worked 70 hrs this week and slept in this morning. Brain not in gear yet.
Monty Posted April 2, 2009 #7 Posted April 2, 2009 According to the manual, you just remove the 11 bolts holding it on. The nut does not have to come off.
Venturous Randy Posted April 2, 2009 #8 Posted April 2, 2009 If you have all the bolts around the perimeter out and the cover will move, the problem is magnatism. The magnetic effect of the stator is a bit and can be surprisingly tough to pull off. Have you already removed the middle gear cover right behind the stator cover, as you will need to take the stator wires loose from their holding point? The best way to get all that old varnish off is with varnish remover, then you can start polishing. RandyA
Yammer Dan Posted April 3, 2009 #10 Posted April 3, 2009 Did you get it off? Be carefull of those wires.
maxantinlive.com Posted April 5, 2009 Author #11 Posted April 5, 2009 Yes, they all have been polished and replaced, looks great, again ,THANK YOU!!!!!!
RedRocket Posted April 6, 2009 #12 Posted April 6, 2009 Yes, they all have been polished and replaced, looks great, again ,THANK YOU!!!!!! Did you use varnish remover, or something different to get the old coating off?
maxantinlive.com Posted April 6, 2009 Author #13 Posted April 6, 2009 I used a strong paint stripper and a old paint brush, waited about 15 minutes then with a damp rag out of the kitchen "shhhhhh" shell kill me,I wiped off the goop, some spots needed to be done another time, then on the grinder, with a buffing wheel attached and mothers polish, I went to town until they looked like they were made of mirrors,I also did the handel bars WOW, if you havent done this you should, what a differance!
