When I was young(!) had a 67 tempest with oversize tires. Officer pulled me over on 33 south of Columbus OH for speeding. I honestly told him my speedo said 55, which the three young ladies with me(!!) verified. He wrote me a ticket, my dad said that we were going to court. He was a mechanic and Auxiliary State Highway Patrol. We sat down and did the calculations on the tire size, rear end gear and speedo gear in the tranny and presented our findings to the judge. He overturned the ticket based on the evidence presented! He said he'd never had someone do that before, always just said it and never proved it!

Of course nowadays I just blame it on the 1st gen!

HEY....I had a '67 Tempest also. Blue with a 326 in it. :) Fenton aluminum wheels.

Ok, I have probably had more speeding tickets than anyone on this board. When I was 22 in Nebraska the lady at the DMV said I had more points on my license than anyone she had ever heard of. I walked for nearly four years due to speeding.

Now, I am extremely perturbed by LEOs that think they have a choice as to whether or not someone needs a ticket. In the US, you are part of the executive branch of the government and not the judicial. If they see an infraction, or other law being broken they should write the ticket and let the judge decide wether it is justified. Doing otherwise is a form of maritial law (judge, jury, and executioner all in one) Holding someone on the side of the road for a half hour without writing a ticket would have me screaming involuntary detainment, which I believe is a felony in Nebraska where I grew up. I bared the brunt a few "lectures" which lasted much longer than necessary and got tickets as well on those occasions, because I am a hot head. A couple of those LEOs got reprimanded and nearly lost their job because writing a ticket shouldn't take an hour and a half. I also disarmed an officer who thought it would be neat to stick his Glock in my face before he even said anything, and later explained he pulled me over "because he knew it was me". Flexing your muscle just because you have a badge is nothing other than wrong.

The way I see it pulling someone over and not writing them a ticket deprives them of what we in the great USA like to call "due process". It is nothing short of harassment. If you aren't going to write a ticket, there are written warnings, which at least document your presence. Giving "verbal warnings" usually indicates (speaking from long hours of arguing with LEOs in courtrooms here) you probably shouldn't have pulled them over because you don't have evidence, or maybe even a valid reason.

Personally, I love it when LEOs try to play judge. I like to say things like "Ok, you give me a verbal warning and I will call the REAL police." or "Yes I know why you are going to write me for 57 when you had me clocked at 67. You can't work fractions." or "Skin that smoke wagon and you'll eat it." and "You may have a bullet proof vest, but I have an idiot proof shirt. In the end, I will win." Funny how LEOs seem to think it is a crime to jerk them around, but they think its OK for them to jerk the citizen around.

Why can't LEOs be professional?

Rant over....back to your regularly scheduled programming....

Well I never did slow down, just got a lot smarter and haven't had a speeding ticket now in over 20 years (knock on wood).

Your day will come! LOL

Say what you want but I got plenty of tickets when I was younger and a few lectures instead of tickets. I prefer the lecture thank you and some of them DID sink into my thick skull.

Interesting. There have been more and more lawsuits coming from taze happy LEOs that think it is ok to taze anyone that even speak up. Argument is not illegal in the US, and shooting someone for that is more than likely illegal. Pretty obvious you are the same kind of power hungry badge boy I have come across several times.

I hope we meet some time so you can taze me for out witting you. Or better yet shoot me because I irritate you. Very professional, and proves my point as well.

Oh, and I really would love that, I have six kids that will be needing colledge educations soon.

I'm not going to say weather or not I gave him a ticket:rasberry:,

after Texas cop Powell's run in with Moats, are most cops now gun shy catching drivers on the way to hospitals?

I was raised in the country complete with gravel roads. I had a 67 Camaro and my cousin had a 70 Road runner both with toggle switches to the brake and tail lights. Weekend nights we would rip up and down the roads until someone called the Sheriff or we would call before we left the house. As soon as the chase was on we hit the gravel roads. Do you know how hard it is to see on a dusty road at night with no brakelights to let you know the curves are coming up?

I have no problem with Ivan, or anyone else here. It was all in fun. I gave up Law Enforcement years ago, because I got tired of dealing with all of the unruly, disrespectful, spoiled brats of todays youth. Not worth the time and money.

I was a well respected Officer, believe it or not. I was actually too nice. I believed in treating people as I would want to be treated. As a civilian, I still see people that I arrested almost on a daily basis, and most of them shake my hand and talk to me.

One night I was coming from Asheville, NC back toward TN on the fourlane that is now I-26. I was maybe running 5 over and had a car probably 500ft or more in front of me. All of a sudden there was a Camaro coming flying up beside me and slowed down quickly to match my speed, then he goosed it several times. When I did not do anything, he accellerated and went to the next car. It ended up being a new Trans Am. All of a sudden both took off and after getting up some speed, the blue lights came out everwhere on that Camaro, as it was a NC Highway Patrolman.

To this day I regret that I did not stop and get that troopers name and tell the guy in the Trans Am I would go to court with him. I am glad I used some constraint as the car I was driving was a 72 Datsum 240Z with a warmed over 350 Chevy small block that would have left that Camaro sitting.

Thanks Don. The moment this becomes a cop bashing board is the moment I leave. I can get that on some other boards I belong to. I like this site because (so far) it has minimal cop bashing taking place.
