T-Paw Posted March 31, 2009 #1 Posted March 31, 2009 Hey guys I'm wondering if any of you work in the constuction field. Particularly Boilermakers, Ironworkers, Industrial Safety and such. I was employed as a Safety Rep using my Paramedic/people skills to keep workers safe when I was was lucky (or not) enough to be hired as a Directional Driller. Then after a few months the company decided to lay of 650 at one time. I am also a Boilermaker and have my book. So, if anyone knows of anything going on let me know. Thanks

Aimhigh Posted March 31, 2009 #4 Posted March 31, 2009 There is billions of dollars of construction going on at Ft. Sam Houston, here in San Antonio. I gotta believe that they will need safety-types. Wishing you the best.
fixit3546 Posted March 31, 2009 #5 Posted March 31, 2009 there is a good bit of oil and gas drilling and pipeline work going on in Yazoo county right now.
Monty Posted March 31, 2009 #6 Posted March 31, 2009 Right now, TVA is not hiring for any of those positions, BUT there are several contractors who do our pipefitting and such. If you're a Boilermaker, then contact your Union to see what we have available. I am a TVA Steam plant operator.
T-Paw Posted March 31, 2009 Author #7 Posted March 31, 2009 Thanks for the info guys. My local halls have nothing at this time.
friesman Posted March 31, 2009 #8 Posted March 31, 2009 Actually we are so short of workers here that the province and 2 major cities here have polled together to set up a large presence in Toronto for the next few days in hopes of attracting some workers out here. Our economy is still growing and had a surplus in the provincial budget last month. Stats Canada was still projecting up to 2 % growth this year after over 6% last year. If you need more info drop me a message and Ill try to help out where I can. Heres a news article about it http://www.newstalk980.com/story/20090331/14244 Brian
Black Owl Posted March 31, 2009 #9 Posted March 31, 2009 I see you are in Mississippi. So, this may be further than you want to travel. But if push comes to shove.... http://oilsands.infomine.com/Careers/?gclid=CN6u1tndzZkCFQtIkgodB1estg Good luck on the job search.
T-Paw Posted March 31, 2009 Author #10 Posted March 31, 2009 Thanks to everyone. There was some good info provided.
Oldseadog Posted April 1, 2009 #11 Posted April 1, 2009 As a Boilermaker you could try the 555 out of Winnipeg Manitoba, or the 146 out of Edmonton Alberta and see if they are acepting travel cards.
