83VR3711 Posted March 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2009 Here is the deal, I have tried everything I can think of and still cannot get the front left cylinder (number 2, I think) to fire. Here is what I have done so far: 1. changed the wires 2. changed the plug 3. swapped the coil with known good 4. drained the bowl and verified that there is fuel flow 5. checked/cleaned connectors from the TCI 6. cleaned every connector that I could find. 7. Cleaned the carbs. *I have not re-synced them (would that cause one cylinder not to fire?) The other three cylinders are running fine. I just am not sure where else to look. Everything appears to be in order....the way I verify that cylinder one is not firing, is the water test. I let the bike idle to normal operating temp and then spray water on all 4 exhausts. All of them evaporate instantly except the fron left. It just runs down the tube and evaporartes as it goes. The tube gets hot, but not nearly as hot as the other three. Please help..... rod Posted March 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 30, 2009 My first guess would be plugged carburetor, did you disassemble the carbs or just run cleaner through? 5bikes Posted March 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 30, 2009 If you got spark it has to be gas, or vice versa. I just synched a GS1000. 2 cold pipes 2 hot. Had to synch a 2nd time to get it right, now all 4 hot pipes. Also to me sounds like a plugged idle jet port in the cold cylinder. At Harbor Freight they have a $10 infared heat temp gauge that looks like a key fob. Works great in telling which cylinder is not working correctly. Point closely to exhaust pipes at exactly the same place and angle. All pipes should be within 5-10 degrees temp range. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Looks like you've taken care of everything on the plug end, and as long as you have verified that the plug is firing, it can only be lack of fuel... or compression. Just because there is fuel getting to the bowl doesn't mean that one or more of the jets aren't plugged tighter than a frogs rear end. If you have spark, fuel, and compression it will fire. You've taken care of the spark. You might try taking a compression test. If you have compression then it's time to pull the jets and either open them up or replace them with new. One more thing. The #2 carb is the benchmark for idle adjustment. If someone has used the sync screws on one of the other carbs to adjust the idle setting, it might mean the #2 carb has ended up closed at idle.
