Need help. Bad Boy or Stebel Nautilis horn install

Has anyone installed a Bad Boy or Stebel horn inside the lower fairing or in the front cowling on a second gen? I have the plain jane Bad Boy and don't want to mount it on the side by the engine. I thought it would fit in where the factory horn is but that looks tight. I haven't put much effort inot it yet as I just got the horn. Hoping someone has already done it and save me a bunch of time trying different locations. Mounting it on 2007 Midnight Venture.

The Stebel will fit where the Stock horn is on the lower right side. I juswt installed one yesterday. Its AWESOME!!!

Do these horns need to have a different circuit run to them? I am considering one on my old XS11, and was wondering if they take a huge amount of current, that would require a relay setup.

Most definately yes on the relay. Stock wiring is not heavy enough to properly fire the compressor motor. Advise it greatly for anyone installing an air horn.

I jsut installed the horn on the orig location. Do not install in the fairing.You need the sound of the horn to be pointed down or clost to pavement so sound can "bounce" to be effective. My old air horns were under saddle bags and pointed backwards and therefor were not effective in warning people in front of me. Setbel says you reallyneed the sound to bounce and vibrate off somethng. It is easy to intall where the old horn goes. INstructions and a bracket from Carbon one are here on this site. I would put the one you have parhaps low on the l side of the bike and then get the chrome for the left side. You will know for sure then that they hear you and its a good investment. I started with the chrome one and will add the other in a couple of months when I have a few $$ again.

Hi John, yes I've just installed a plain Bad Boy horn in the front fairing and am very pleased with how it sounds. I found Freebird's post very helpful;

I ran a seperate fused wire from the battery to a relay and installed a seperate horn switch, my stock horns are still opperational.

I installed a bad boy horn using the existing mounting bracket. I have mine sticking out from the side and the relay right next to it. I was able to use both existing wires from the original horn with out splicing them and then just added two more wires from the relay to the horn. Hope this helps. I will try tomorrow to add some pics of what mine looks like.

I was given a plain jane stebel, not chrome, and because of this I didn't want to mount it where it could be seen. I placed mine inside the fairing on the frame work for the headlight pod and sound system. 11,000 miles with out a problem and still plenty of volume. Do use a relay, the draw is too much for the original circuits.

I now have the front cowling laying on the floor. I need to get a few parts and then I'll hook 'er up. If I need a second, I'll probably put it on the right by the engine (chrome of course).

I took some photo's of where I put my horn today and will post them under a new thread so have an eye for it. I'll also be showing pics of my headlight mod and horn switch.

 

Sorry but I can't help you with the snow except to encourage you that it won't be long now! ... I'd post the pictures now but I was just heading down to the dock with a coffee to watch the sun set!!

Wow, installed the horn today. Has a grrrrrrrrreat sound and is loud.

Thanks to all those on the forum that have provided guidelines and

advice. Worked first time!!!!

 

Bought the bracket from Carbon One and the horn and wiring harness from Twisted Throttle. Cut the harness to length, put the wires in a protective split-tube and

replaced the Stebel horn end connectors on the harness with right angle connectors

to keep clear of the exhast.

After I put one on my bike I had to install one on a friends bike....

 

We now have 5 in our group with the Stebel.....
