Give the Sportster a chance. I rented a Sportster 1200 C a few years ago and took it down to the Florida Keys. It was a VERY enjoyable bike. I'd take one any day.

She said everything is fine now, and they agreed she will keep her bike. No need to keep bashing the love of her life. He succumbed to her wishes, which was the smart thing to do...gotta keep your girl happy.:scorched:

Yeah, but under the condition that she has to ride on his bike and give up riding her's when they ride with their Harley buddies. Sorry, doesn't sound like He succumbed, sounds like she had to give in.

Guys I really do not know why you are getting so upset because I am going to ride with my husband on his bike to Harley events.

I am just trying to get along with him. I do not really like those events and I hardly really am with him for the most part.

I like riding my bike on short rides around town. If we go somewhere farther I usually ride with him, just because of the convenience.

His friends are nice enough, but they are of that typical mind set of the HD thinking. Maybe someday I will get that Heritage Classic. I have to work at a better job though I am thinking. I do not earn enough now and I am satisfied owning my VStar.

Interesting conversation going on here.

I've had a bunch of Yamahas and Hondas in my life. Never had serious problems and do all of my maintenance.

I bought the 883R from an older guy here for a decent price about three years ago.

I rode it to my Road King riding friend's house and asked if he would now wave at me when I passed. He smirked and asked why I bought a "girl's bike". Never heard that term before, but said I would never buy a Harley for speed or dependability anyway. That's why I have Yamahas. I received no reply.

The truth is: my Sportster is a 2003, so it doesn't have the rubber engine mounts. The vibes don't bother me at all. I really enjoy riding it and have had zero trouble with it. Although, being carbureted, it does cough from time to time. And there are no valve adjustments to bother with. I understand the Sportster's is probably the most dependable Harley engine in their lineup. I'll keep mine.

But my V Star really is a much easier handling bike. And it doesn't have the Harley cough.

So, I'll ride my Yamahas while wearing my Harley shirts that folks gave me. Makes no difference to me what I ride or wear.

I would wear Yamaha shirts while riding the Sportster, but no one has given me any yet.

I don't add bling or non-functional chrome to anything and I don't buy tshirts and hats to advertise.

So, if you like the V Star, I'd try to keep it. I like my wife riding with motorcycles me, so she usually rides the V Star. She loves it.

I was wondering, is your husband his own mechanic?

Why Ms highwaypeg. It's chivalry! Any southern gentleman (whether by his birth or his nature) will take umbridge at a member of the fairer sex being treated in what is perceived to be an unseemly, dismissive manner, such as has been described. The responses you inquire about, well, they are the textual equivalent of coming to the aid of a fair damsel in distress, my dear! Be that as it may, I believe your latest response to be a well reasoned and measured compromise for the man you love, dear lady, while still maintaining a measure of control over your own activities and desires, as relating to motorcycling.

To put it in more coloquial terms: "You go girl!!!" :happy65::hurts:

:sign yeah that:

I'm not really as upset as I made it sound, although, I can't stand that Harley attitude, which is why I will NEVER HAVE A HARLEY!! They may make the best bike in the world but I will never own one.

That being said, I know you're trying to keep the peace and you need to do what you need to do and I can appreciate that. If you rarely ride with his friends and him and it's more convenient then, by all means, ride with him. All I'm saying is, that because of an "attitude" or a "Way of thinking" you have to give up, OR HAVE TAKEN FROM YOU, something that you enjoy just because your "ride" doesn't mesh with their way of thinking or attitude. Just not right in my way of thinking.

Why does the song Suffragette City come to mind. :confused24:

EDIT: Hmmmmm just happened to think. The "Never own a Harley" line makes me as bad as the "attitude" people. :no-no-no:

Okay, I'll rephrase that... Why I will, most likely, not be buying a Harley :happy34:

I believe the relationship with the spouse is more important than the kind of bike you are riding - sounds like you are getting the best of both worlds. Keep your v-star and you are both happy when going to Harley events. What more could anyone ask for.

I think you should ask him why he can't be a man and ride the better bike the Yamaha instead of joining the sheep that think they have to have a Harley.....Be a man not a Tavern to Tavern follower. Harley riders are mostly TT rides.....Tavern to Tavern....that way they slowly gather parts that have fallen off instead of a truck load after a big ride.....plus in a Harley ride you always get to stop and rest more when someones Harley quits or needs parts tightened. Maybe he's gettn old and needs all the rest breaks! Didn't you say you liked him better when he was his own man rather than a follower....I'm sure I heard that under their somewhere. What car does his friends want him to have......LOL......I agreed in 2001 that Yamaha built a better Harley when I rode the Roadstar at 2001 Bowling Green Ky Star days. After my wife and I climbed off we really liked are V-Star and Venture better than ever. My Harley friends respect me and my Venture......My best riding friend tells them all that I ride with him everywhere and for long distances....Not those little TT rides his Harley friends ride......They say they want to ride with us till they find out what our day ride will include.....They just go have another beer and strut around with $500 worth of Harley foo-foo cloths on. LOL Jerry K

Ps....Can you tell I like Yamaha's?

I have written several posts and deleted them before posting.

I will just say that some people do not have their priorities in the right order.

And, I whole heartedly agree with autopilot's last post. There are many of us that can not stand seeing a woman treated this way.

Well, I better quit or I will end up deleting this post.

Thanks Randy, you're expressing my Thoughts exactly. I to had several Comments on my Mind and decided not to post them, just in Respect to Highwaypeg and the Possibility of her Hubby reading my Comments and giving her .hi. about posting this Issue here.

Thank you every one, especially Autopilot for your very helpful suggestions. It has been sort of difficult around here concerning this topic. I do think we have come an agreement. I am sorry that I have not been on lately I have been busy.

I told my husband that I will not give up my VStar. He seems to be ok with it, especially sense the

Heritage Softtail that I was eying was a bit expensive. I said no Sportster for sure.

He has agreed that my VStar is a nice bike for me to ride, especially since I am a new rider.

So I guess the end of the story is, I am keeping my bike. I will ride with my husband on his bike when we go with his Harley friends.

We have been married too many years to have this tear us a part. I want to thank you all for your support, you have all been so kind and caring to me. I will never forget your kindness.

So,does this mean that when you guys attend a Venture rally, your hubby will ride with you...:rasberry: :stickpoke: :crackup:

Seriously,I think I speak for everybody here,We really hope that both of you ride to Freebird's MD...Heck,you even live in the right state.:D

You will be amazed at what a great group this is..:thumbsup2:
