bj66 Posted March 26, 2009 #26 Posted March 26, 2009 tell him to put some yamaha logos on his Harley instead:clap2:
wes0778 Posted March 26, 2009 #27 Posted March 26, 2009 Remind him of the expression; "If Mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy!!!!"
mraf Posted March 26, 2009 #28 Posted March 26, 2009 Harley Sporster Over a VSTAR.....NEVER! If you do you will not like it. You have already been spoiled with durability, smoothness of ride, dependability and peace of mind.
bryan52577 Posted March 26, 2009 #29 Posted March 26, 2009 Sounds to me someone thinks more of "HIS" image than the LADY he is "suppose" to love. OR the Yamaha is more bike than his is and he is "Jealous", in which case just ride a little slower and don't take off to fast and he will think he has a good bike. Only you will know the difference ! Bryan
Redneck Posted March 26, 2009 #30 Posted March 26, 2009 Just tell him you don't have small Johnson syndrome so you don't need a harley to prop up your ego.
pegscraper Posted March 26, 2009 #31 Posted March 26, 2009 Tell him to hang it in his ear, and that you're not interested in being a part of that kind of snobbery. Tell him if you get rid of the V Star, you're getting a sport touring bike, like an FJR, which Harley doesn't even make any of that style anyway. I know of a gal on another board who rode a V Star 1100 while her husband and his buddies all rode Harleys. Her bike was customized and looked really sharp. About a year and a half ago she sold it and got a Heritage Softail. Also a very sharp looking bike, and a lot nicer of a bike than a Sportster is. It was never clear, but I suspected it was under some pressure from the husband. I had to chuckle a little bit when she showed back up on the V Star board just a few months ago with another V Star to fix up and customize. The Harley was gone. All she would say was that it just wasn't the bike for her and that the V Star fit her better.
bokeifus Posted March 26, 2009 #32 Posted March 26, 2009 Wow. thats the most sellfish thing Ive ever heard of. I think Harleys are Gang related, and should be Band from people with bad attitudes... LOL Whats he afraid of, that you might out run him ? Maybe that you might get there first, because you didnt break down. Maybe that his Harley brothers (The Brotherhood) keeps jabbing at HIM about YOUR bike. Let them Jab... Run that VStar in the ground GIRL !!! Dont hold back. You've rid'n a VStar,, A Harley just wont due! Keith
MAINEAC Posted March 26, 2009 #33 Posted March 26, 2009 Sportster Shmortster!!! If he really wants you to get a Harley make him get you a Softail Deluxe... That's the latest greatest Harley Chick bike... http://www.motorcycle.com/images/content/Review/ioLoadImageCA0JRMOP.jpg Sportster is a downgrade from your V-Star...
Little Bob Posted March 26, 2009 #34 Posted March 26, 2009 It`s your bike. He rides what he wants so just tell him the harley is not for you. :Venture:
Yama Mama Posted March 26, 2009 #35 Posted March 26, 2009 highwaypeg, The more I read these responses the angrier I get about this whole thing. Have your ever test driven a Sportster? I would go and ride one. I think the VStar sits lower too, The Sportster looks like it sits higher. How tall are you? That might make a difference to you. But your bike is so sharp, the Sportster does not even come close to the looks of yours. I am supporting you highwaypeg. I know we live close to eachother. I think we need to meet sometime soon. And I would love to meet your hubby too. Yama Mama:big-grin-emoticon:
hig4s Posted March 26, 2009 #36 Posted March 26, 2009 They are not comparable bikes,, wheel base, seat height, suspension, instrumentation, handling and cosmetically the V-star is about the same as a Fat Boy or Soft Tail Classic. Sure the HDs are 100lbs more, have bigger engines, 65hp vs 40hp, but still the Vstar is closer to them than a Sportster. Maybe you should go to an HD dealer alone and see if you like the Fat Boy or Soft Tail Classic, if you do, you can tell him you will switch to HD, but only if he will spring to get you the one you really like.

Exactly what I was thinking. Even a Heritage Classic would be a better bike than a Sportster. It would fit you better, be more comfortable, look better, and go more than 90 miles before needing to stop for gas. Or is he just upset that you aren't on a girl's bike (stereotypical comment, no offense meant towards anyone)? Edited April 4, 2009 by whanna
GG54172 Posted March 26, 2009 #38 Posted March 26, 2009 I thought the Harley motto was about riding your own ride, independance, blah blah blah? Don't give in. If the bike fits, ride it. Tell him tough!
SilvrT Posted March 26, 2009 #39 Posted March 26, 2009 that should be your choice since your the one that rides it. DITTO that! I don't know you or your husband but frankly, it sounds like he has some "issues"... and in particular ... a bit of a "controller". RIDE WHAT YOU LIKE... and live for you and nobody else.
ToRide1 Posted March 26, 2009 #40 Posted March 26, 2009 No doubt the V-Star 1100 or even the 650 V-Star is better made than any Harley I have seen. The others have posted some nice advice so be reasonable but firm with him. You could make a deal with him! Get two coffee cans one for you and one for him and every time eather of the bike breaks down and needs repair & parts (tires & air filters & plugs don't count) that person has to put $50 dollars in their coffee can and at the end of 5 years the person with can with the lest money in it wins and get to spend the money in both cans. I know who is going to win.
eazyduzzit Posted March 26, 2009 #41 Posted March 26, 2009 My husband is a Harley guy. He never wanted me to buy my VStar from the beginning. Now because he hangs out with his Harley friends he wants me to get rid of my VStar which I really love. He wants me to get a Sportster Now that's the craziest thing I ever heard. Why would anyone want a Sportster? That's a nice looking bike you've got. Has he seen what a Sportster looks like?
whitebass Posted March 26, 2009 #42 Posted March 26, 2009 A bike is a bike it dont matter what you ride, just that you ride! Are you related to General Chuck Yeager
Squeeze Posted March 26, 2009 #43 Posted March 26, 2009 Now that would be like i'm asking my Wife to get rid of her Garden ... I wouldn't be involved about the Heat THAT would start. Not to mention that riding Motorcyles can be dangerous and it's sure better and safer to ride what your comfortable with than ride what somebody else thinks you have to ride. Plain and simple said ... Ride what you want and like, and if there is something to get rid off, it sure would be more your Hubby than your Bike.
Who Dey Posted March 26, 2009 #44 Posted March 26, 2009 Harley's are junk and you couldn't give me one of any kind. A Sporster is not half the bike that you have right now. Tell him to ride what he wants to ride and you will ride what you want to ride. If you sold that bike for a Sportster you would be sorry i guarantee it. Sorry but your husband is just being ridiculous.
AmnChode Posted March 26, 2009 #46 Posted March 26, 2009 What a load of B*&$^#...When my wife was shopping for a bike, I did not dictate what she was going to ride. I did make some suggestions on some bikes to look at due to her size (5 ft nothing), as seat height was an issue, but the decision was hers....I just happen to luck out with her liking the V-Star 650 Silverado... Ride what you want to ride
ronhenry4 Posted March 26, 2009 #47 Posted March 26, 2009 you should do exsactly what your husband says.... he's the man .... oh wait thats not right maybe thats why i have been diviorced 3 times...... just kidding you should keep your bike and offer rides to the guys when there bikes break down heheheeh
Snaggletooth Posted March 26, 2009 #48 Posted March 26, 2009 What highwaypeg needs right now is a support group! She needs FRIENDS!!!!!! She needs a bunch of people to befriend her and let her AND the dorag guy she's married to that the people have spoken. NO SPORTSTER!!!! highwaypeg.......you want some more friends? We are here for you. Snaggletooth
mountainhorsega Posted March 26, 2009 #49 Posted March 26, 2009 He should support you. whatever you like. I agree that it sounds like he has fallen into the if it aint harley it aint sh*t attitude and that is just sad. by the way - If you REALLY want to get his goat (and some additional comfort), go get a wing trike - I know a place that can put you on one pretty cheap. My wife loves her's.
OutlawRider Posted March 26, 2009 #50 Posted March 26, 2009 If his friends can not except his wife because of what she loves to ride, then it is time for new friends. His wife and the ride she loves should come first. If he needs to impress them they are not true friends. Tell him to ride what he wants and you'll ride what you want.
