Well ,I did it. Picked up a new Uni-go from schoolhouse in Ohio last week. Brought it home in the back seat of the car and installed the tongue and wheel. Did the wiring thing and had a go at it. Never pulled a trailer before and I have about 40,000 on my '06 RSV. Put 70# in it and tried it out, didn't know it was there, can't see or feel it. Had a friend ride behind me to see if all was OK. It just follows along. so far I've tried about 3 rides of about 40 miles each. took it up to 70 for a shot and did a lot at 62 or so. Seems like its going to be OK. Got an extra set of wheel bearings with it just to be have it they go out on a trip. I think the bike center of gravity is lower with it connected and actually seems easier to handle in the parking lots than with out the trailer, I will keep you posted as I gain experience with it

I had no idea you can get Uni-Go trailers at the schoolhouse....no idea at all....

 

Well I'll be visiting all the schools around here as soon as I can. Maybe they have one in black.

Congratulations on your new trailer. I have a Unigo also and I am more worried about the tire than the wheel bearings. I had a flat tire on the trailer a couple of years ago in the western Nebraska on a Friday afternoon. We tried to plug the tire and it didn't work. The tire is a Metzler scooter tire and it is supposed to be carried by Parts Unlimited. On that Friday Schoolhouse was closed and no dealer stocks the tire. I tried to get my local dealer to have one drop shipped to me from PU overnight but that couldn't be done either. Fortunately we had a truck and trailer travelling with us and I we were able to continue with the trailer loaded into the truck.

 

To solve that problem I now have and extra tire and wheel assembly boxed up and ready to be shipped. When I leave town with the Unigo I make sure to leave the spare tire/wheel assembly with someone that can overnight it to me if needed. That way I would only lose less than a day due to a flat.

 

There is something to be said for using a 480/8 or 480/12 tire when you can't carry a spare. They can be bought at any Walmart.

I am wondering why the tire couldn't be patched, not that I doubt your word, but I am wondering what would have happened to it and also would it have been possible to temporarily install a tube to finish your trip? Have you looked into installing a 12 inch tire?

I would cetrainly try Rideon in those tires to prevent flats. Even if you get a dozen nails in the tore it won't go flat as long as the nails aren't in the sides.

In my case the tire was damaged from being run flat. I couldn't tell it was flat while underway. I noticed it at a stop. Appartently with no air the tire was able to grow in circumference while running 70+ mph and it rubbed on the frame. I didn't think of a tube at the time.

 

I do like the idea of Rideon. I think I'll appy that before my next trip.

I guessed that that mite be the case. I am trying to find some place a convex mirror can be installed so that I can see it. schoolhouse gave me a lid that wasn't up to snuff when i told the salesman that I was thinking of making one to put a windshield on and a box for my 20# dog. He loves to go on the bike with me. When I've found that I cannot see the trailer , I am not so sure I want my dog to ride in it. He may just have to continue on the luggage rack when were 2-up.
