I am scheduled for a surgery at the end of next week that will keep me from riding for about 3 months. After that I was planning on shopping around and purchasing a 2006 Royal Star Venture. Well it looks like I found a pretty good deal now so I may purchase before the surgery. The help I need is what to look for in a used RSV. I know it's only a year old and has less than 600 miles but the old adage of "if it seems to good to be true it probably is" keeps kicking me in the butt. Any advice on what to look for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

To be quite honest, if it's an '06 it has a 5 year warranty, so you really have nothing to worry about as far as problems. Just make sure the Radio/CB and other components work well. There really isn't a whole lot of problems with the G2's and basically your looking at a new bike :happy34:

We sure could use a bit more info on the bike before being able to offer up some opinions. If you're just looking for things that might be wrong take a look thru the 2ndGen tech talk section. Most things you should be aware of are posted there.....

Cool, thanks guys. The bike is a 2006 with 400 miles on it and the asking price is 13,000. Since most I have looked at seem to be in the 15,000 range I thought this was a good deal. I have spoken with the gentleman that owns it and he says he purchased it to sell it a few months back at a dealers wholesale auction due to it being repo'ed. He states he has all the paperwork to back up the claim. I was thinking that since I was looking at getting one in December or January why not go for a good deal now. I was just worried because it seems like too good a deal for it to be true. It's also in GA and I'm in FL so it's about a 4 hour ride to go look and I wanted enough info to make a decision on the spot. Thanks again.

Gonna get rid of your warrior are ya? I don't blame ya.

I've got a 99 venture with 69,000 miles on it. Granted, I've only owned it for 2 months and put 7,000 miles on it myself, but no problems that I'm aware of.

When I first read your post, I was wondering why you were asking about the reliability of a 2nd Gen because Ive seen you post plenty of times, then I noticed your join date and realized I recognized your handle from the rswarrior forum.

Sounds like a good deal. Last year at this time, I purchased my 03 with 5.5K miles on it for $12K and since that day I've never regretted my decision. I'd say if you can afford it, go for it. 5 years of warranty is worth alot more than you may think. If you do spring for it, bring it to your local Yammy dealer within a week to re-register for your factory warranty or you may be out of luck . I think it gives info on that in the owner's manual.

I thought I recognized that screen name. No the Warrior is staying in the garage, something has to keep the RSV company when I'm not home. 7000 in 2 mos is pretty impressive, couldn't do that on a Warrior and stand up straight. :)

Thanks for the info on the extended warranty, if this deal goes through I'll make sure I take care of that quickly.

Maybe there is an RSV owner in Ga near the bike that would look it over for you? This is a BIG family and most of us are willing to help. I would if it was in the Chicago area.

Good luck,

Alan..

The only thing I can think of that might be a real pain is if it has the Whine. While there's a warranty fix by changing the clutch basket, it doesn't always work. If you have that and it bothers you it might be worth being cautious about. Other than that I agree with Squid. Not much that goes wrong with these. What does and is big is covered by warranty. The little stuff you can fix yourself with help from folks here! :happy34:

Where in GA is the bike? One thing to look into is to make sure the bike wasnt involved in a wreck or other mishap.

It's in south GA right off 95. I think I found a version of carfax for motorcycles. I'm going to ask for the VIN and run it and see what happens.

With my Warrior I found a home at rswarrior.com, great group of people always trying to help out and inform. It looks like the same type of people here. Whether it's this Venture or another I'll be sticking around. Thanks.

Looks like I'm headed to Eulonia, GA tomorrow to pick up a Venture.:thumbsup2:

Be careful when you pick it up, it's heavy and you might hurt yourself!!!:rotf:

I dropped mine twice the first day I had it, no damage, just slowly laid it down on the crash bars. Did it 2 up. I blamed the passenger.

Well I got the dropping done quick. I borrowed a friends trailer instead of taking my own because he said it would be easier to pull empty. Told me there had been RSV's on it before and loaded no problem. Yeah right! I bought the bike and then had to load it myself. First problem is the sides are so narrow that once the bike was on you could'nt lower the stand. So there I was trying to tie down the bike while also balancing it and ......boom. Laid it over on the side. Finally got it tied down, not many places on the bike to attach straps, and headed home. Half way home the drivers seat blew off on I-95. Had to jog a 1/2 mile back and get it out of the weeds. All in all a very interesting trip but at least I have the bike.

See? It already thinks it's a Harley! :rotfl: :witch_brew:

BTW Congratulations!

AL, sounds like a bet of bad luck. A enclose bike trailer is the only way to go, It's easy to load by your self.
