Bigfoot Posted March 23, 2009 #1 Posted March 23, 2009 I've brought part of this problem up before but I have a follow up now. My AM/FM has plenty of sound thru the external speakers. At highway speed (60-65) I only need to turn the sound to 17 or 18 to hear it fine. When I switch to XM which is on my GPS (Garmin) the sound is nowhere as loud. I can turn it up to the max at 30 and at highway speed I can barely hear it. Same way when it's run thru the helmet speakers before I got a new helmet. My question now. If I get an MP3 player for my upcoming 30 day ride will the MP 3 be like the GPS/XM since it also plays thru the cassette player or will it be as loud as the FM? I may not get the MP 3 and waste my money if I can barely hear it.
Bummer Posted March 23, 2009 #2 Posted March 23, 2009 My music player also had low volume issues. I noticed that it has a built in software equalizer. All that does is turn everything down some so the listener can turn selected parts of it up. I turned all the individual frequencies up to max. Volume out is about the same as the radio now.
OutKast Posted March 23, 2009 #3 Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) The Garmin Zumo has (two) different volume controls. For the master volume, press the bottom left button on the "frame" of the unit, then press the + button repeatedly to max volume. You should see yellow bars on the screen. Then, go to "settings" (the wrench on bottom right of main menu) then "volume", set "navigation" to 100%, and try 70% for "mp3/audible". If the music still not loud, increase the mp3/audible percentage. This percentage may need to be changed when you change from mp3 to xm, depending on the signal strength of the mp3 memory card you are using. If you have a Zumo (assumption based on you have XM tied to it) why do you need a separate MP3 player, as it has one built it? Edited March 23, 2009 by OutKast
uechi kid Posted March 23, 2009 #4 Posted March 23, 2009 I have the same issue with my MP3 player. I have to turn the volume on the player all the way up, then it is almost the same as the radio. I can listen to it at 18-19.
JohnnyB Posted March 23, 2009 #5 Posted March 23, 2009 I have the Yamaha MP3 when it is pluged into the player you cannot close the door. Is there a problem with leaving it open? I am still working on how to get sound to my headset ( the intercome ) I will work it out. Johnny
BuddyRich Posted March 23, 2009 #6 Posted March 23, 2009 Yea, Your Zumo is set to low on its output. Mine is about the same as the radio. I have the XM antenna and its the same . Set your Zumo correctly and there should be very little difference between AUX and FM on the bike.

Bigfoot Posted March 23, 2009 Author #8 Posted March 23, 2009 I have the Garmin 2730 but now that you mention it I believe it has a MP3 built into it as well. I can't imaging the storage is very big though. As far as the volume the 2730 doesn't have that option.
