Rick Butler Posted March 19, 2009 #1 Posted March 19, 2009 Hey guys, Does anyone know where there is a 1300 rear shock for a Venture Royale? I'm helping a friend out with a 83 standard and I had forgotten how bad these rear shocks are. It's my suggestion that he replace it with a coilover off a Royale. Any ideas, Rick

herbhanson7 Posted June 26, 2009 #4 Posted June 26, 2009 i have a 83 royal with only 10,500 on it, was my dad,s bike, he passed on i got it when it had 6,400, it seems the rear shock likes to be a low boy when i put my lovely 135 pound with on it, i maxed the air pressure to 85, i didnt go higher then that, it still grinds the mud flap , lost a 1" already off it ... eekk,,, i bought a shock on ebay, it says it was off a 83, but this one has no coil around it,i have the computor control air supention on it, the other shock dont, i,m thinking about putting rubber spacers on the stock shock, like you do onn race cars when you want to increase spring pressure, or should i try to modify the new old shock to work with the air ride,, or plug rear line that goes to the compresor, and manual air up the new shock, input please, is this one of the weak link in the ventures of that year?? thanks herb in ohio

My 83 std rear shock has a coil on it. Also on this 83 std with 85 pounds in the rear shock, I would be checking to see if your frame is cracked and twisted near the centerstand. How hard is it to get on the centerstand?. RandyA
PBJ Posted June 26, 2009 #6 Posted June 26, 2009 Would putting progressive spring in the front help "lift " the rear at all? I have to replace the springs in my 85. they bottom out over most everything but the rear may need replacing too. Any suggestions on a good replace shock ? what company seems best?
capn eddie Posted June 26, 2009 #7 Posted June 26, 2009 I bought one off ebay two days ago for $102.00 that has a progressive spring on it . there was a couple more on ebay without the progressive spring, i also found on the progressive site you can get just the spring for around $96.00 if you shock is ok and you just need the spring like me but i bought the shock with it on for the price of the spring

Are you sure that the air is in the rear shock and not just saying it's there on the controller? Although the bike is supposed to be on the center stand when filling with air, try going from 0 lbs. pressure to max while the bike is on the side stand and see if the bike rises or not. Dick
