And these people are allowed to sell batteries? Good Lord.

I asked another one about the Odessy........his answer. "Is that for the Honda?"

I might stop by the Interstate store tomorrow if I'm to facing more stupid answers.

Where do these people come from?

In my limited experience, the Interstate Battery Stores DO have knowledgeable folks employed there.

Hey Brian,

You're right on that. I dealt with Interstate Battery for years on a commercial level. They always treated me fine and stood behind their products. I've got one in my car.

But after my converstions that day trying to locate a Deka or an Odessy.......well I had no faith the day was going to get better. All good things must come to an end. I didn't want to risk it. LOL!

I still like Interstate and it's probably because I didn't go there that day.

Alot of Info in this thread. I thought that the ETX20L was the replacement for a 2nd Gen. Don't you own a 2001?

Now I'm :confused07:

Condor the ETX20L would be a direct replacement for the 1300CC XVZ13 Venture from 1996 to 2007.

Megamax AGM batteries are Chinese manufactured being sold on Ebay by Patricia Boynton in NJ. The battery I received for a BMW R1150RT from this seller was shipped in a flat rate USPS box (illegal) with absolutely no manufacture packaging or paperwork. Worse, the battery was leaking acid and had a non-OEM terminal style (bolt top type that can break the connector) that was manufactured at an angle. In addition, not the one pictured, draw your own conclusion. Seller was trying convince me that the bent terminal will not effect battery performance and this "sealed" battery leaks acid until a few charges. What the _ _ _ _? Everyone knows a sealed battery should not leak right?

As a MMTech (19 years), I was seeking a power supply that would solve BMW ABS fault code voltage triggers and cost effective. Service states 12.5 or below, my Snap-on has recorded 12.62. This battery claimed to be an AGM, latest battery technology. Contact me if you want see the tests, pretty funny. Stay with an Odyssey, Westco or Panasonic AGM.

Here's some entertainment on the battery:

For this auction we are introducing a MegaMax battery for the 1993-2009 BMW cycles listed below. This is the most powerful battery that will fit right into your battery box without any modifications, just like it was factory, but more then twice as powerful than the stock battery as it will supply more power than any other factory battery.

If you are running or want to run 3 front end lights, running lights, air horns or a lot of "extras" that make your bike your own, then this is the battery for your BMW. It has more then double the cold cranking amps (CCA) than the factory battery with 24 percent more Amp Hour.

If you are sick of having to charge your battery once a month or annoyed with your BMW slow starting and not being able to crank over your engine, then it is time to upgrade to a Fully Sealed, NO Spill, Lead Acid AGM Battery, just like the present day sport bikes use.

With this battery you'll get:

More Cranking Power

Faster Charging

Longer Reserve Capacity

No Chance of Leaks or Dry Out

Lower Self Discharge

Not Effected By Vibration

Corrosion Free Terminals

If you were to compare the factory battery with this Sealed Battery, you would clearly see the advantages to upgrading to this battery, look over the side by side comparison below and make your own decision on which is right for you.

Factory: WET TYPE MegaMax: AGM TYPE

200 Cold Cranking Amps 425 Cold Cranking Amps

18 Amp Hour 22 Amp Hour

Price $150.00 Price $99.00

Liquid Acid Type That Leaks Completely Sealed

Required Electrolyte & Must Be Vented Non Spillable

Can Be Mounted In Any Position

Faster Recharge Rate

Slower Discharge Rate

Shock and vibration resistant

You might want to delete one of your duplicate posts. Also it's not illigal to ship a sealed AGM battery via USPS Priority Flat rate. Chinese batteries are not the same quality as an AGM built in the US, and it doesn't surprise me that the thin case split in transit. You should have brought the leakage to the attention of the Post Office. WestCoast and Odyssey are US made and are the same battery. One is private labled by Odyssey for WestCoast. You failed to mentioned the DEKA battery. Well made in the US and checks out slightly better than the Odyssey with an OEM foot print. As posted in previous posts, contact Josh at http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka.html for the best price on the DEKA.

That site shows a different battery for the 1200's and the 1300's I thought all 1st Gens were the same. My 85 has same size battery as my 83's

All the 1stGens (MkI&MKII) are listed under the ETX18L on the site??. All 1stGens batteries are the same. '83-'93....

The site has a separate listing for the 1200 and the 1300 but if you click on the link to the recommended battery they both recommend the same battery.

So both you and the site are correct

Just received mine the other day and had a chance to install it. Did the fix that Jack wrote up to fix the battery sensor. (Thanks Jack.) Battery fit perfect. Waiting for fuse update from Earl. Bike starts very fast every time. Even when hot. And on first push of starter button, with out having to hold it down as long as I use to. Am very happy with it. Test came this morning when I went to start it. Temps in the low 20"s last night and bike started right up with no hesitation.Bike sits out side with a cover on it due to I have no garage yet. Ride Safe.

I WAS RIGHT?? Wait a minute gotta make a note of that somewhere!!!:Avatars_Gee_George:

Just kidding. I've been right a couple times if you don't ask the Warden!! Guess I just didn't dig deep enough. Gonna change cables on "Ugly" and clean starter. She gets so slow sometimes I wonder but always starts.

Next battery will be a a AGM Deka ETX18L???

This is best we can come up with?

I ordered and received an ETX18L from Josh. Delivery was prompt and the thing fit like the original. The contacts are larger on this battery and the stock rubber boot will not cover the positive post. I cut and shaped the red plastic cover that came on the new battery and it works perfect.

The difference is amazing. I have suffered poor cold starting and poor hot starting issues for a long time. The old battery seemed to be good. It did not sag below 9V during initial cranking. However, it would run down somewhat rapidly. It is now my opinion the ignition system of my VR is very sensitive to voltage sag. The new battery has very little sag during cranking and the engine kicks off immediately.

BTW; My VR has the original battery cables, starter and starter relay.

For those riders that have hard starting VR's . . . Get A New Battery!

Looking for a battery for my 89 VR and was curious how this battery has held up for the people that purchased the Big Crank ETX18L Battery.

Thanks for looking.

The first Gen's take the YTX18L-BS DEKA battery. Bohanon offers them for $94.00 on your doorstep, which is about the best price I can find anywhere outside of becoming a dealer.. http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/motbat/18lbs.html No matter which AGM battery you buy just make very sure it's made in the US. I ran into one battery from Bike Master that failed after 1 year. After searching all over the place we finally found that it was made in Taiwan.

Thanks for the replies, I will be getting one order shortly. I am not expecting to get much riding in till late April if that soon here in Minnesnowalot..

I bought a Big Crank ETX15L for my XJ700S last year, and it made a world of difference in every way a battery can. It sat this winter in the bike, no charger or tender. I just went out to the shed today at 34 degrees temp and she fired right up. If I get my G1 Venture, I will replace the battery with a big crank regardless of the shape the original one is in! New guys 2 cents...

I was actually able to find the Deka brand of battery locally at Mills Fleet Farm under there house brand. Was checking it out and noticed a sticker was placed over something on the box and when I pulled it back to look. There was the Deka name and the paperwork in side was labeled with EPM company. So I got it for $79.00 plus they take the old battery so I dont have to worry about properly disposing of that.

So anyone in the Minn/Wisc area, check out Mills Fleet Farm for a battery.

Thanks
