jburrell Posted March 17, 2009 #1 Posted March 17, 2009 Ok, I have a small problem and I'm sure I'm not the first to experience this. I added new grips to my bike about a month ago. Now when I try to set my CControl the switch will not let me use it to SET the speed. I can use the top part that is for Resume and the bottom cancel works but when I push on the part that should be for "set" speed it wont go in at all. I took the switch housing back apart thinking I had a screw too tight or something but even off the switch still would not let me push in on the bottom part that "sets" your cruise. Any ideas? Am I gonna have to get a new switch?
Eck Posted March 17, 2009 #2 Posted March 17, 2009 James, It sounds like the CC switch is binding (or broken) pending on if it worked just prior to you taking the switch housing apart to change grips. Does it move at all ? Does the aluminum housing appear to be snapped together correctly where you did NOT have to force the screws to be tight? Do you see a gap anywhere around the seam where the two pieces snap together. It's been a while since I have had mine apart and I don't remember of the throttle cable could get in the way and the switch is binding on the throttle cable. I would have to take mine apart to check it out and I cant do that right now for you. Is the black switch properly located in the hole or opening of the aluminum housing where it is not binding or "catawampus" in the opening.. (like that word do ya..? ).
jburrell Posted March 17, 2009 Author #3 Posted March 17, 2009 I took the switch back apart thinking I had it in a bind but, even with the switch off the handle bars, the black toggle will not toggle inwards on the bottom ( setting curise). I did not have it in a bind and it does not appear there is an issue with screws hitting it. The black switch is mounted into the housing but, there has to be a reasonn it suddenly stopped me from setting speed. The top half of the switch (resume), still works fine but, of course there is no speed to resume to. When I had it open the other day, I took a look and considered trying to take the black switch out of the housing but, then decided not to unless forced since it also has flashers/starter and kill built into it. Any suggestions anyone? Your input/assistance is appreciated.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 17, 2009 #4 Posted March 17, 2009 Any possibility that you got some grip glue accidentally spilled on the switch?
jburrell Posted March 17, 2009 Author #5 Posted March 17, 2009 There is no glue on that side. The throttle slide holds the Kurykan grip on. Just cant understand what changed. I took off the switch and put it back on and it only has a couple of screws in it. There is nothing in the way for the set part of the switch. I was wondering if this has happened before and perhaps there was a way to "unstick" it. thanks for the thought
