I thought the squelch on mine was bad, but turned out to be the knob. After I replaced the knob and it works great. It has a pretty good seal to keep out the dust and mine was very clean down deep inside. May try checking the knob first. :2cents:

The pots in these radios, believe it or not, are a standard type. I found some similar at a local CB shop at a truck stop and was able to wire it in.

While I had the CB out looking for a loose wire or something I could fix, I opened up the bottom and back of the radio and could see the shaft turning without having any effect. Several people mentioned the knob may be turning without turning the shaft, that is not the case.
