ctraylor Posted March 16, 2009 #1 Posted March 16, 2009 I have a quick question. Are the black plastic covers over the valve covers neccessary? I don't see any reason for them being there. Has anyone left these off without any problems?
Dano Posted March 16, 2009 #2 Posted March 16, 2009 We remove these "air-guides" as well as the "YICS" system at will. The Yics system is the big black tank that goes over top of the front valve cover. They tend to develop leaks and will cause vacuum leaks in the intake system. Remove the tank and hoses and cap off the nipples on the intakes with rubber caps, using the spring clips from the Yics hoses. Good luck, Dan
BradT Posted March 17, 2009 #3 Posted March 17, 2009 ON my 86 I removed mine to change the plugs could only get one back on so I removed the one that I did get on. Never had a problem. Brad
Condor Posted March 17, 2009 #5 Posted March 17, 2009 I don't know about the rest of the years, but on a long day ride in extream heat, the seat on a hot runing '83 will toast your buns without them in. Then again it might be a good thing when there's white stuff on the ground....
