Ok - How many have installed their MAC mufflers? I got mine with the last group purchase. They came in pre-rusted for me. Condor got them sent back for another set. The second set won't hang correctly. I had to die grind one slot (left) to get vertical alignment. It needed to go up. Would have rather ground the right to go down but there would not have been a slot left! Now as I look, the left muffler sticks out from under the bumper about an inch. The right is recessed under about the same. Maybe I am too picky. However I notice it when I look at the rear of the bike. Anyone else encounter problems or am I looking crooked? The stock mufflers fit perfect, I put them back on just to measure!!

Had to bend one of the mounting tabs a bit to get the turndown to look level from the rear. Other than that they were perfect. Very happy with mine.

I had the same style Jardines on mine from the PO and they were rusted bad and had bits of baffle loose inside. They were 5 years old.

If anyone has been holding off to install their MAC's and run into a fit problem, don't grind on them. It voids the warantee. I got stone walled by MAC on JB's fit problem due to the grinding. Contact me first. My first set on the '83 fit perfectly, but the second set on the '91 took a little 'relieving' to make them fit right. Not nearly as much as JB experienced, but still had to. Also keep in mind that MAC is the only manufacturer that is making aftermarket exhausts for the 1stGens. Jardine has dropped them from their line.

I had to grind the slot about 1/4" or less on the left muffler to raise it level. My problem is the body of the muffler on the right side is almost 2" longer measured from the tab to the back tip of the muffler. Don't know what to say about MAC being the only game in town. The first set (rusted) were good on the length and vertical alignment. I think MAC is being chicken -fecal material on the grinding. How does relieving the bolt slot make the muffler too long!

Welcome to the world of 1stGen's. At one time I thought that Jardine was the only one left who built anything for a 1stGen, until a couple of years ago I found a set of MAC's NOS listed on Ebay, and did some detective work. Mac's retail price was a hundred bucks less than Jardine's, so I went ahead and ordered a set... direct. I liked what I received and thought I'd share with the rest of the members and try a group buy. The first group buy was great!! Mainly because they had stock. Number two took a while longer because #1 cleaned them out ,and they had to build to order... but it still wasn't that bad. This third buy sucks!! It's been nine months since the order went in, and I've heard more BS and blatant lies than anyone has a right to be subjected to. They must be having a good laugh thinking I believe them... I took it because I just didn't want to burn any bridges, and short change anyone who had pre-paid. Believe me, when this buy is over, it's over. And to be real honest, I rellay don't think MAC is too long for this world. I've been involved in manufacturing and sales repping for over 45 years, and when it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, ya gotta duck. MAC is on the verge of going belly up. Jardine has dropped 1stGen mufflers of their website, and I suspect that they sold what stock they had left to the guy who sold them on Ebay toward the end of last year. Unless someone picks up the torch to supply muffler sets for the 1stGen we're going to be SOL....

I finally got mine hung on the bike after I got that flange fixed on the slip-on end on the one pipe. It was crushed about 1/3 of the way closed. Couple of minutes at the muffler shop took care of that. They hung straight and look to be the same on both sides. Nothing really out of line. I have to put my rear light bar back on yet so I still have to see how all that clears.

But as far as the finish, it's good. No rust anyway. And they sound good for idle and revving sitting in the garage. Still haven't have her out on the road yet. Still got more work to do before the big 1st ride of the season.

All in all it's good. :happy34:

I guess I got lucky on this one. I had to slice 2 more slits in the end of one to get it to fit over the header, and the other I had to bend the mounting tab out a little as the pipe leaned in toward the rear tire. They arrived with no rust and no dings. I want to thank Condor again for dealing with MAC and their bs thru this ordeal.

I will probably get flamed for this. But I like my bikes LOUD, I like to set off car alarms riding thru town, I like to scare old ladies and little kids, I like dogs to wimper and run when I blip the throttle, a loud bike makes me all :173: so what did I do you might ask? I took the muflers off! Put the turn down tips on the stubs coming out of the collector, and boy does she sound sweet!!!!!! and what did it cost? $0, I guess I coulda paid good money for some new rusty mufflers that I would get to grind on, but they would of made it quieter!

Ya, I tried that too... for a few days anyway. And ya, it's loud as he**. But it sure did sound sweet. I had a thought of somehow gutting out a pair of stock mufflers and running a straight pipe all the way through. I also wondered how a glass-pack would work. But then that might look a wee bit gaudy. That could work on the rat bike maybe.

I ended up punching my OEMs out and putting them back on, it just looked a little naked without them.
