mikexup Posted March 13, 2009 #1 Posted March 13, 2009 I have the a 1st generation Venture standard (1983), and was wondering if anyone has installed one of the audiovox cruise control systems on these bikes. Thanks
GG54172 Posted March 13, 2009 #2 Posted March 13, 2009 (edited) I do not have any info on the audiovox cruise control system. However i did like my vista cruise (thumb lock) on my 84. For 20 bucks it did a great job. I have a 2nd gen now with cruise and I still think I would like to install a thumb lock. They are pretty handy. Edited March 13, 2009 by Gregory Gill
Condor Posted March 14, 2009 #3 Posted March 14, 2009 I was looking at the Audiovox for my '83, but ended up finding and installing a NEP throttle lock. Takes about 5 minutes to install. From what I've read the Audio would do a great job. The only thing I find troublesome with the NEP is when running with 2ndGens I tend to run over the top of them on the downhills, and fall back on the up's due to their constant adjusting of the throttle to maintain speed. Get's frustrating after a while. When riding by myself it's great....
Squidley Posted March 14, 2009 #4 Posted March 14, 2009 I helped Dray install one of his Vstar, he loves it. Also Carbon One has used them before and installed them on Suzuki Volusia's with no problems....I'd say go for it
Reaney in NH Posted March 14, 2009 #5 Posted March 14, 2009 I installed one on my Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan and it worked awesome. I drilled and tapped my Crash gaurd and used as a Vac tank. I could find a link with full install instructions for the Kawasaki... if it would help you. Well worth the effort for sure. Reaney:thumbsup:
Beau-Kat Posted March 14, 2009 #6 Posted March 14, 2009 In a year or so, I'm going to be looking at locating a used (2007) FJR1300. Doing some research, I found this info: http://www.fjr1300.info/howto/audiovox.html Nice photos and write-up. Maybe you can benefit from it.
Ivan Posted March 15, 2009 #7 Posted March 15, 2009 There is a fully electronic Audiovox Cruise control that doesn't take a vacuum module. Search them out on Ebay, since they are near impossible to get anywhere else. I think I would go with that on a bike. Less room taken up and no need to find a good vacuum source (No vacuum when you ride around with the throttle pinned like me. )
wild hair 39 Posted March 15, 2009 #8 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) i put one on a PC800,worked great, below bout 75-80 then lost vacuum, looks like all you would need to do program it for 4 cyclender check the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ipcrc/promote i found it sume place there, may have the paper work around here sume place will look http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ipcrc/ http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/cruise-control.htm Edited March 15, 2009 by wild hair 39
Carbon_One Posted March 15, 2009 #9 Posted March 15, 2009 As Squidley has said I've mounted several of them in various bikes in the past. The AudioVox system I feel is the best unit to use for a mc. Small enough to put on just about any bike. They work great too, same as in your car or truck. I'll be installing one for a friend in a Honda Valkyrie Interstate sometime this spring. Larry
