Does anyone have info on replacing the plug wires on a first gen? Can I go to resister wires and regular caps, and do I need 7, 8, or 8.5mm wires? I seem to remember a good tech article here BC, but can't find anything now. Gonna do a long trip in Sept and need to fix up the bike.

NGK Wires's and caps, work great.

there is a guy in Wisconsin, supplies matched sets.

I forgot the name.

Or just get the wire and resistor caps from auto supply, cut them to length.

You can also order them on line from auto supply.

The stock wires are Solid copper wire. Thats what you want to use, not the stuff used on cars now.

Be Sure to Replace the old Caps!!!!!!!

Be sure to use Solid Copper conductor Wires. Don't use Graphite Auto wires

The new NGK caps have enough resistance.

Update: I found this on E-Bay, pull up this " Item number" 220018002288

Todd,

The easiest way is to call Rick H at Buckeye performance and order everything from him. He'll sell you everything you need at a decent price and it will all be right. 7mm is the only size you can use as 8mm is too large to fit into the coils correctly. Also use the stock plugs...dont go hotter as there is no need for it.

If your caps are ok you can use the accel #3008 available at advanced auto parts. I did my inline 4 and my VR with one set. they are copper core also. I don't have a source on caps yet.

Thanks Brad, Did you see the post by George about the EBay stuff: "Update: I found this on E-Bay, pull up this " Item number" 220018002288"?

Those look good too. I like the yellow wires. Let me know what you think.

BTW. I put on the batt cables that I got from you at Vogel... all I can say is AMAZING. I didn't expect that much difference. I couldn't find the post on the easy way to install so I zip-tied the new cables to the old and had a friend pull as I pushed. I also used a piece of the old neg with a new end to run from the ground at the engine to a frame bolt. I figured it couldn't hurt. I also recomended your cables in another post.

Thanks again.
