I'm happy with a little less chrome, so I pulled them off.
ddoggma Posted March 7, 2009 #7 Posted March 7, 2009 Any chance, the screws come with it? I guess I can find screws...
bongobobny Posted March 7, 2009 #8 Posted March 7, 2009 One of those screws is a CCW thread, so if he does not have them, good luck...
RedRocket Posted March 8, 2009 Author #9 Posted March 8, 2009 Any chance, the screws come with it? I guess I can find screws... The P.O. did a good of chewing it up, but it'll make a good temporary screw till you get a replacement. There are a number of specialty screw and hardware companies around that make Left handed screws. Other than that I think it's a standard 10m thread. The left side one is still being used to hold my CB radio controls.
bongobobny Posted March 8, 2009 #10 Posted March 8, 2009 I'm still trying to find a 10mm reverse thread tap but no luck so far...
Squeeze Posted March 8, 2009 #11 Posted March 8, 2009 I'm still trying to find a 10mm reverse thread tap but no luck so far... If you refer to the right Side Mirror Mount Thread, that's M10x1.25 LH. http://mdmetric.com/prod/widell/LH.tap.die.htm Depending on what you're planning to do, you may have a Look on a Thread Former instead of a standard Tap. I use them Formers lately more often and i'm very satisfied with the Threads generated. You can use them by Hand or in a Machine with no negative Effects. Threads in Aluminium are more stable than cutted Threads. Only "Downside" is you have to get yourself used to different Boring Diameters.
bongobobny Posted March 8, 2009 #12 Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks, Squeeze!! For now I just want to clean up the existing threads, but I still have a project in mind converting old broken mirrors into bases to screw aftermarket mirrors in to...
RedRocket Posted March 8, 2009 Author #13 Posted March 8, 2009 IF you google " left handed screw " you'll get 120,000 hits. Here's a link to a list of companies making left handed screws. http://www.thomasnet.com/products/lefthand-screws-72660350-1.html IF it were me I'd try and verify it's sizing by matching the left side ( right handed thread ), and them contact one of the companies listed.
bongobobny Posted March 8, 2009 #14 Posted March 8, 2009 Yah! My search was limited to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Sears. It wasn't an urgent need so I just put the whole thing on hold...
