I have a 2008 RSV that has a set of driving lights installed by the dealer. The bike has a short or a bad connection on the driving lights. My question is can I remove that front ferring without taking off the driving lights? It seems like a tight fit.

Nope gotta pull off the lights to remove the front fairing. The Fairing has 2 pins that go in rubber bushings above the head light...the fairing must come forward about an inch to be removed. Some where on the site they make an adapter mount for the light bar so you can remove the fairing without removing the lights.

It really is not that hard. If you have some allen wrenches with the ball end on them, it will be easier to get to the bolts holding the light bar. Carry it back to the dealer if you do not want to mess with it.

I was able to get the lights working. Had a bad connection at the switch. It was tight in there.

Thanks

I also had a light bar installed at the dealer and now they do not work. To my dismay the headlight stopped illuminating and lucky me this happened while i was out riding and my friendly neighborhood policeman pulled me over to tell me and of course write me a ticket. :crying:

Got back to the house and started some initial troubleshooting and discovered that they did not do a good job at routing and protecting the wires imagine that. After replacing the fuse for the headlight which now works and allowed me to get the ticket reduced to nothing.:happy65: Now to tackle the wiring issue which is on the plans for tonight or first thing in the morning since now i am armed with information from here on how to split the faring and also received my space for my light bar. Hopefully I won't have to rewire the damn thing..........SO THE MORAL to this story is if you have this light bar installed at the dealership inspect the wiring as much as you can and make them change or fix what you find. The lessons that we learn!!!!!!!!!!

If the dealer didnt install a relay along with your driving lights now is a good time to do so. I also ran a hot wire to the battery area where I have a fuse block. Sure beats removing the fairing to change a fuse if it blows. One other thing, If the lights from the dealer have on of those rubber coated on/off buttons you might want to consider replacing that with a much better toggle switch. Those buttons dont last long.

If you search on this site you'll find that many of us have either bought or made a bracket for the spot lights. It allows you to remove the fairing without removing the lights. Sure makes it easy.

The police usually issue a "fix-it" ticket for headlights and if you read his post again it sounds like that is what happened. So many are quick to jump all over the law enforcement for doing their job.

Ok where would the relay be if they did install it and not sure what it would be used for. any help?

Usually the relay would be mounted inside the fairing. It should be a 30 amp and it looks like a small square black box with 4 connectors. Trace your wires from the driving lights and if its wired directly into a red wire with yellow stripes then you do not have a relay. I have my fairing off. Ill try and post a picture later tonight.

One function of the relay is to keep your ignition switch from cooking itself.

Yes your correct it was a fix it ticket. The officer was cool and was a motorcylce rider as well, even though he as giving me a hard time for riding a yamaha he still liked the bike and after i told him what i paid for it he was very impressed since he has a harley and paid twice as much as i did. Since you have the faring off a picture would be awesome and thanks.......Will be in Jax next week for work.

Heck, if your gonna be here in towm you may as well come by and see the innards in person so you can really understand it. I can assure you the bike wont be together by then. :Avatars_Gee_George:

You might want to check the wires where they come out from the passing lamp bracket up into the faring. If they pass by the steering block without being tied they could have been pinched by the stop blocks on the lower tree… don’t ask me how I know!

Yea, What he said... That happened to me once.... hey you tricked me. Well, anyways, I pinched a wire on that stearing block, so upon fixing it, I then wraped the whole bundle of wires with black tape to prevent one single wire from getting between there, and then try to arange the wires out of the way. It worked !

Yes that was the problem when the dealership installed the passing lamps they didn't do a very good job and placed all the wiring near that block and wouldn't you know it they all got pinched. Just got done rewirring the whole thing and putting on the passing lamp spacer that i got off of here, which that was well worth the money was able to get the faring on without having to dismantle the passing lamps. Should have installed it myslef and done it right the first time..from the guidance and instructions from this site made is so easy........thanks to everyone that helped and all that have posted there insight before........
