ToRide1 Posted March 7, 2009 Author #3 Posted March 7, 2009 what type and brand of battery? What bike is it installed in ? It a Yamaha Royal Star Venture and as far as I know there is way to tell how old a battery is but not sure how to interpret the codes
Cougar Posted March 7, 2009 #4 Posted March 7, 2009 It would be 4 years old.... . Most likely it is the original battery in that 05 you have. Just a guess though.
Condor Posted March 7, 2009 #5 Posted March 7, 2009 There's usually a letter/number stamp on the side of the battery. First letter stands for month... a=Jan, b=Feb,...etc. The number is the year manufactured. 4=04,5='05,...etc. So G7 would be July, 2007.
GeorgeS Posted March 7, 2009 #6 Posted March 7, 2009 If original, which most likley is, at 4 to 5 years old, best to consider it replacement time. Go for the Dry Cell, AGM type, or a Gell Cell. Cost is higher, but worth the extra.
bull463 Posted March 7, 2009 #8 Posted March 7, 2009 I just put a new odessy battery in my 83 vr WOW what a differince worth every dime. bull

Now this is what every one needs to know Thanks I got this bike used from a dealer and they are not going to replace a battery unless it really needs it. I suspect its going or getting weak as it getting a little harder to start! The starter is using most of the power it has left to it and not enough getting to ignition coils.
Cougar Posted March 7, 2009 #10 Posted March 7, 2009 Gunna put one in my riding lawn mower next *BWG*
