Rick Butler Posted July 31, 2007 #1 Posted July 31, 2007 Guys, I am helping a friend remove some accessories to be installed on another RSV later. And he has a Trip Master tach with a water temp gauge. Does anyone know if this gauge came with a replacement thermo switch? Thanks, Rick
1BigDog Posted July 31, 2007 #2 Posted July 31, 2007 From what I remember, Tripmaster is no longer in business. Too bad, thats a nice gauge set-up. Maybe another sensor/thermo/thingy from another type of gauge will work.
venturejockey Posted July 31, 2007 #3 Posted July 31, 2007 Yep, that was a nice set-up. Wonder what happened to the molds?
GunnyButch Posted July 31, 2007 #4 Posted July 31, 2007 Tripmasters went out of business about 5 years ago due to the owners illness. He passed away from cancer not long after. You might check with the Venturers storekeeper, I think they aquired whatever inventory Tripmasters had left over not too long ago.
BuddyRich Posted July 31, 2007 #5 Posted July 31, 2007 I would think you could use any thermistor that will give you the resistance readings needed by the gauge to show the correct temp on the gauge. Is it a 2 lead unit with a bi-metal sensor?
Rick Butler Posted July 31, 2007 Author #6 Posted July 31, 2007 Thanks Guys, But just after I made this post, I remembered Bill Vinson had one. So I e-mailed him and he still had the instructions that he e-mailed to me. So for now I'm good on this subject. Rick
Gary N. Posted July 31, 2007 #7 Posted July 31, 2007 Hi Rick, Just wondering if these trip master gauge pods were injection molded plastic of fiberglass? Shouldn't be hard to duplicate in fiberglass if someone wanted too. Just need one to use for a mold. I'll bet there would be a good market for them if someone wanted to tool up and get ambitious. Maybe Steve Wagner would be interested in adding to his product line.
Freebird Posted July 31, 2007 #8 Posted July 31, 2007 They are made of molded plastic. The company that I work for actually has vacuum molding machines and I considered at one time doing something similar. The problem is, somebody bought the patent on this unit and I don't remember now who it was. It should be easy enough though to design something else that is similar but different enough to not violate the patent.

rsstar Posted August 3, 2007 #10 Posted August 3, 2007 Rick, I have one on my 06. Won it in a raffle on the Venturers' site. Had some problem with the install as Brent (storekeeper for that site) got all the inventory but no instructions. Found out that the sending unit for the temp guage had the wrong threads and had to be milled to fit the 2nd gen. He also sent me a resistor to put in line to make the guage accurate with the sending unit. The other problem I had was that the instuctions for hooking up the tach identified the wrong wire in the harness. When I followed the instructions tach didn't work. So I just ran a new wire from the #1 coil to the tach, thru the little wire harness attached to the guage. All works great now, although I think the temp guage reads a little high. But from what I remember about my Drag Specialties tach on my 99 this tach is pretty close. At 3500rpms my speedo indicates about 79mph, I think. Actually I haven't really looked at it lately. Will double-check it today as I rode the bike to work. By the way, the guy that owned/started Tripmasters patented the guage pod, the Diablo pipes and a couple other things for the 2nd gen. But the guage pod is really nice. I feel very fortunate to have gotten one!!!
gibvel Posted August 3, 2007 #11 Posted August 3, 2007 rsstar, Is it possible for you to post a photo of the gauge pod?
rsstar Posted August 3, 2007 #12 Posted August 3, 2007 Gibvel, I am at work right now and don't have a picture on this computer. But later after I get home I will post pictures.
gibvel Posted August 3, 2007 #13 Posted August 3, 2007 That would be cool........Much appreciated, Thanks!!
Bvinson Posted August 4, 2007 #14 Posted August 4, 2007 Here is a pic of my gauges. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/99Tach.jpg
rsstar Posted August 4, 2007 #15 Posted August 4, 2007 Ok, I finally made it back. Here is my guage pod.
gibvel Posted August 4, 2007 #16 Posted August 4, 2007 Hmmm, that's pretty cool. So, they mold another ignition switch cover with holes for the tach and temp gauge, huh? Very nice!! Great use of, other wise, wasted space.
Sgtglenn Posted August 12, 2007 #17 Posted August 12, 2007 I'd really like a pod setup. Rather than water temp gage I'd prefer to have voltage meter.
