Branch of service

United States Navy

Date of service

Active October 1981 - October 2001

Fleet Reserve November 2001- October 2110

Occupation while in service

Chief Firecontrolman

Chief= Pay-grade E7, Initiated and PROUD of it!!! I had up to 107 guys working for me at one time, and all the headaches that came along with it.

Firecontrolman = I operated and maintained the computers and RADAR that controlled the firing of the guns and missiles. I was the guy that "Projected Power" There is NOTHING like the sound of a Phalanx CIWS, a 5" gun firing, or the sound of an SM-2 launching.

Firecontrolman motto: If it flies, it dies.

Optional: funny boot camp story

Getting yelled at by my Company Commander MSCS (SW) Gloria.

I am 6'6" tall and he was about 5' 2" tall......

He was a Philippine National and this was my first experience with a heavy Philippine accent.

He use to yell "You are so pucked up, drop and give me twenty"

I could never get past the fact that he was calling me a puck, which is a disk of rubber that is used in Ice Hockey.

I could never get past it without laughing and having to give him twenty more push-ups......

I was such a pucked up recruit!!!!

9 in the Army (mos 11B and 00F) (Vietnam '70-'71) 12 in the Navy (AN/SPG-55B radar and CIWS)retired in '92

My funny story is: I've always been sort of a rebelous person which lead to this. when I arrived in Great Lakes

having been prior service as a drill instructor the company commander made me Recuit Cheif Petty Officer.

Ships serviceman 2nd class Sloan (company commander) being as dump as a stump we did not hit it off to well. Myself

having taught drill and Ceremonies I taught the company to do a about face to the left (a** backwards) and we did it that way

for two weeks until another company commander caught me. that was the first time I was fired. On graduation Day I still presented the sabre
