shighley Posted July 29, 2007 #2 Posted July 29, 2007 Jerry; Your system is working properly. The dull glow is normal. Relax and enjoy the ride! Ride safe, Steve
Condor Posted July 29, 2007 #3 Posted July 29, 2007 I think the dull glow is ambiant light coming from the other dash lights.... Does the intensity change when you adjust the dimmer knob??
nyjerry Posted July 29, 2007 Author #4 Posted July 29, 2007 Thanks for the replys and there is no change when I ajust the brightness. I have had a few electical issues lately and changed over to inline fuses to solve my problems. I could not remember if the light was like that before I started the job.
86er Posted July 29, 2007 #5 Posted July 29, 2007 That happened to a friend of mine on his 83 but his voltage at the headlight had dropped to about 5 volts! We tried replacing the reserve lighting unit to no avail. We fixed it by hooking up two relays to take power straight from the battery and pulled the dash bulb out. That was before I found this site and learned about bad solder joints in the main board. He also had trouble with the gas gauge reading erroneously. I did the re-solder just before he sold it and that took care of most issues. Although we left the relays in it. Re-soldering is fairly easy, especially if you have good magnifying lenses.
